Did you ever do a re-rebuy?

Yes you read right. A so called re-rebuy. I think I just did that. Let me explain:

I started dipping my toes into watches in 2017 and bought my first automatic watch with the pepsi turtle. after I watched some urban gentry videos I sold the turtle because it felt way too big and heavy for my tiny 6.5 inch wrist. all I wanted back then was this perfect sweet spot of 38mm, so I ordered my first Hamilton Khaki mechanical, the one with the beige Strap. Allthough I wore the hell out of this watch it didnt stay in my collection and I flipped it with other watches to afford something more expensive... during that time I also bought my first full steel gshock square in 2018. This one unfortunatly also had to leave my collection due to to stiff endlinks which made the lug to lug uncomfortable long on this watch.

and guess what happend the following years? yes I rebought these 3 watches in different colours and styles.

the kakhi I rebought when the cool bronze edition came out. the turtle I rebought because I couldnt resist the first gen save the ocean dial. and the metal gshock I rebought on silicon strap because I thought it would wear better than on the bracelet 😅 here some pics of the first 3 watches and the 3 rebuys:

as you can already guess: I again sold all of these 3 watches to afford some bigger purchases like tudor or rolex.

I thought: this is it. I would never buy a khaki mechanical, a seiko turtle or metal square again. a second rebuy (I call it re-rebuy) would be total nuts.🤯 just the thought of buying 3 times the same or nearly similar watch made me anxious. I never thought this would ever happen.... until today 🫣

today hodinkee released a really good looking version of the hamilton khaki field mechanical... with more simple, decluttered dial (less numbers), a cool orange popping second hand and the classic beige canvas strap which I really liked on my first khaki. I just couldnt resist and pulled the trigger straight away 🙈

please comment below if this also happened to you and you bought 3 times pretty much the same watch. It feels really strange and I hope I am not the only crazy watchnut who ever did the "re-rebuy"... sometimes I feel like a psychopath 😆 this "hobby" never ends!!!! 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

I've only sold one watch, and I have zero intention of ever buying it again.

I've never understood the idea of selling a watch you love, just to buy another watch. If you love the watch, wear it until you save enough for the next one.

I wish I could be like you 🙏 I really hope I can leave this buying and flipping one day behind myself... sometimes it is really struggling 😌 but the good thing is: my 8 piece swiss/german watchbox is now full and I will probably stay in the seiko and casio range in the future. but the end goal is of course to stop the flipping and enjoy the pieces I have 🤙

I’ve done this with other hobbies. Usually something sold out of necessity. But I haven’t sold enough watches yet to regret anything.

Great looking watch!

just bought the chrono 😬

the chrono also looks super cool! 🤙 unfortunatly the lug to lug on the chrono would be too long for my tiny wrist. the 47mm on the field is already at the upper limit for my wrist.

The Hamilton is such nice watch. I would of bought one if it was 40mm and not 38mm. 38mm is way too small for me. I have bought and sold about 50 watches. Never bought the same watch again.

I haven't yet but probably will.

Hey, that new HODINKEE Hamilton is WORTH the re-re-buy!!

·

Been there, done it several times. A couple of models, three times.

Hopefully have learned my lesson. If I ditched it once, it was for a reason.

I don't like the color choice for the seconds hand, but otherwise it's a nice addition.
