Help! Stop Me from Buying this Watch!

In the spirit of the "deinfluencer", I need people to stop me! I love the look of the dial. The price is a bit above my range, but it would not be a financial hardship to get this. (But maybe get a Grand Seiko for a lower price?).

Yes, I've tried it on at the shop and the 39mm was a very tad bit too much, but not by much. If that makes sense. My normal range is now 36mm to max 39mm.

I love the sector dial design! And the true vintage feel. Of if it was 37mm, it would be soooo hard to resist! But I don't know if part of this is my usual excitement about a new watch. (Isn't it time to buy another one, eh?)

And what triggered this is that it's discontinued. No, I don't think it's guaranteed that it would actually go up in value, but it might. And no, that's not the major consideration. I like the watch!

But then I think, I could get a Grand Seiko and a half for that price. There is a GS 37mm manual wind watch that I've been eyeing.

What should I do? Aargh!

(PS - this is partly in humor. I really want the watch but should really consider my long term collecting goals (Rolex!).)

I personally find that the hour's hand is a bit too long and the minute's hand a bit too short resulting in too much similarity between them. It's still a pretty watch and if it doesn't bother you I don't see why not.

·

Look away and your money will stay lol . I adore that watch also and have basically slapped my hand (every time I look at it ) away from my cards in my wallet 💳 bwah ….

·

This is actually a beautiful watch. I did wear it but I didn't like that the 39mm had long lugs and is a bit thick so it doesn't rest well on my wrist. Why in the world would Omega want to put in a METAS movement in it is beyond me. They could've use their older chronometer movements and made this more vintage and cheaper.

Having said that, there are a LOT of other better watches at that price. Omega is betting on the vintage look to entice us.

·

Buy it, it's beautiful, will most likely get really scarce and you'll regret it if you don't! If you don't like it I'm sure it'll sell - maybe without much of a hit due to its rarety.

Go for it 😃👍🏻

·

Love the awesome vintage vibes of that one! 😎

·

Avoid settling for second best, even though it’s half the cost. If you buy the GS, guess what? I guarantee you’ll still want your first option. This is how watch collectors end up with watches in their collection that they either want to sell or barely get worn. Stay focused on your first option that checks off all the boxes!!!!!!

·

Can't help you here.

·

hello sir, are you interested in some affordable alternative? and then you can bought one grand seiko too.

I collected seven reasons while reading your post why not to buy the watch, I watched the video to confirm those reasons, but as soon as you flipped the watch over, all the reasons disappeared out of nowhere. They are gorgeous, even so much so that I wouldn't have a problem wearing them the other way round/upside-down 😀 The only thing I would criticize them for is that for the price they could have put more than just printed numbers on the dial but sure enough I could live with it

·

That’s the sort of watch 30 years from now will look even prettier than it does today. Not many watches I think hit that note.

·

Hey nice choices of watches on your wishlist!

If you are saving up money for a rolex in the future it would do no harm to buy this lovely Omega. Why? Well the money is sitting at the bank doing nothing, you can allocate the money in to this Omega, and when the time comes that you have saved up enough to get your desired rolex, you sell this watch for probably more that you bought it for. In conclusion, you got payed to wear a watch that you love (at least that is how I see it). It's only recourse allocation, and you are the sole benefitter👍

Good luck with making the decision!

·

I think it looks amazing and does everything right, but I think I agree, 39 for a dress watch is on the borderline. As silly as it sounds I think just 1-2mm smaller is all it needs. For that kind of money it would need to be bang on and probably puts me in the no camp

·

И think the proper term should be "outfluencer" as opposed to "influencer". Image

Talking you out of buying something, instead of talking you in.

·

Sorry I’m the wrong guy to tell you to Stop and Don’t get this watch… I love this watch!! I believe Per @WatchYourIntruder has this beauty!! Perhaps the wrong person to deinfluence you but if you have the opportunity to get it .. I would !! 😜😍🎉🍻

·

Yes, sorry I can’t help you. As @Ichibunz says I am a proud owner of the CK 859. I think it is a stunning watch. Even if it’s terminated it’s still available in surprisingly many Omega stores. Guess the style is not for everyone.

·

I generally will advice you to get it, lmao. But with a little bit of 'but'

If it's not putting you into financial hardship in nearest future, and you can't afford it without spending your force-majeure money, i'd say go for it. It's such a stunner and this is vintage inspired done absolutely perfect. At this point, it's like finding a new old stock, except it would probably be around 34-36. Fantastic watch.

BUT! I'd encourage you to think about how badly you want that Rolex. I know this is a matter of taste, but even being a Rolex fanboy i gonna say that this Omega is way more interesting that everything Rolex does today. But if you are really into the ultimate traditional style of a Rolex, and it's a watch that could possibly replace your whole collection, and this is what you really, like really want, then i'd say you should keep your eyes on the prize and not let this absolutely amazing watch distract you. But then again, would you ever get this call from AD? What's the possibility of you actually getting one? I usually think that you shouldn't be afraid of missing out, but maybe this time it's actually reasonable to pick this Omega up. If you ain't getting this call anyway in the foreseeable future, well - you'd have yourself a truly outstanding watch.

And don't think about the GS, tbh. Those aren't going anywhere. And you obviously want this Omega more, since you trying to downplay it and kinda justify the GS, but at the end you still want the Omega.

Or just buy all three. I mean, it's a perfect solution without any compromises! Ah, yeeeeahh, moneys. Well, i think you will figure it out)))))

Don't buy the reissue. Instead, keep your eyes out for the original vintage version that inspired it. They occassionally show up on Chrono24 for $2k-$3k and, at either 35mm or 37mm (iirc), its a better size. But they're not super common, so the time spent waiting and looking is a great opportunity to save up for the purchase.

For example, this one sold recently

Furlan Marri just released their 37.5mm mechanical sector dial watch today.

Ok guys I appreciate all your comments. But it's over. I got the watch :-).

As someone said, it's vintage done right. The way I want it done. Vintage inspired looks but modern movement. The co axial movement, double barrel, jumping hour hand, I couldn't resist.

I'm happy.

·

I love the look of this but there’s also other brands that do this (at least superficially not movement) for less, so my logical brain is saying no.

And they would be pulling in the hardcore Omega fans who want vintage . . . The rest of us, while certainly being enticed, know there are many other vintage options out there if your sole desire is modern vintage.

·

I'm too late as you made up your mind, but here's another reason why not to get that omega...

This one is more beautiful! And they have it in rose gold. And they have an AC version! But it's discontinued.

I know you got the watch, but also don’t forget about the Longines sector dial that has a 38.5mm, 11mm thickness, and only $2,500.

I would buy that Omega over a Rolex any day of the week, just saying 😉 That particular Omega sector is a beautiful watch and one of my favorites if not my favorite from Omega.

Thank you so much!

That dial is money. So on that basis can't tell you not to buy it. That said, 'if it doesn't fit you must acquit'.. I have a 6 125" wrist so way too many watches fail on size. I like it, but would pass because for that price range, it has to be a no brainer. This does not quite achieve that status. So wait for something you have no doubts about for your next purchase.

It's too late bit I get what you are saying. I'm also an absolutist about case size.

I've put it on my wrist and it felt great! The more I had it on my wrist, the more it grew on me. I was startled how quickly it felt right on my wrist.

Honestly, same. It was the wrist feel for me. But the one that was handed to me had a large image on the back and so it wasn't a great view of the movement, I was happy to hand that variant back.
