The often overlooked Casio Edifice collection 🏎️

If you couldn’t tell by now, I’m a huge fan of Casio watches. The brand represents a large portion of my collecting journey and no matter how many watches I have, Casio will always have a place in my watch box. That being said, I recently realized that there is more to the brand than G-Shock and the like. Enter: the Edifice collection!

Casio Edifice watches occupy an incredibly niche space within the watch market, mostly targeting the motor sports industry and its fans. While the majority of the lineup is full of garish and comically large chronographs, there are a few models that both maximize value for your dollar with specs and are made in crowd-pleasing sizes.

Amidst the frenzy surrounding the release of the incredibly popular “Casioak” G-Shock GA-2100’s, I was on the hunt for something similar but didn’t need another resin case G-Shock in my box. I was lucky enough to pick up a EFS-S570 from the collection, and it had an even slimmer case, solar powered quartz movement, quality lume on the hands and indices, and classic Genta design cues with the octagonal brushed bezel, oh and a sapphire crystal! I was beside myself with joy and I unboxed it and put it on my wrist for the first time!

It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, however, and this watch is plagued with a cheap and “jingly-jangly” bracelet like many other Seiko and Casio offerings in this price range. Rolled links that are sized with untrustworthy push pins and a cheap stamped clasp lower the overall wearing experience just a little bit. However, this indicates that almost of the money you invest into the watch goes where it should: into the watch head itself, rather than the bracelet or packaging. It wouldn’t be a complaint at all if it weren’t for the fact that it is integrated into the case and cannot be changed! The bracelet was my only complaint aside from the hilariously small running seconds sub dial at 9 o’clock 😂

All-in-all, these watches are high quality and reveal a side of Casio that few can rival. Certified spec-monsters with timeless designs that can stand up to the abuse of daily wear. The only thing is, they are becoming increasingly hard to come by. I was lucky enough to pay $102.95 from Amazon, but the prices have doubled since my purchase in October of 2022. The EFS-S570 can be found on Amazon today for $210, and I think the return on investment isn’t what it should be at that price, least of all when the GA-2100 range has expanded and includes different sizes, build materials, solar movements, and infinitely more colors at similar prices.

If you don’t mind the price though, this is a stellar watch with a mediocre bracelet. Otherwise, if you don’t need a chronograph function or a solar movement, check out the similar EFB-108D-1AV. It has a bracelet of the same quality, but features a classic three-hand movement with a date for $89.99 on Amazon today.

What are your thoughts on the Casio Edifice collection? Are they the diamonds in the rough within Casio’s extensive lineup? Or are they overpriced and overhyped? Thank you for reading, stay tuned for more! 🏁

My thoughts? I have 2 Edifices of which my better one is the EQB-1100D-1A

These are the best watches from Casio IMO! Not even G-Shock can compete with them. Amazing!

I don't have one but would definitely wear one if it came along at the right price.

I like companies who support motor sports.

I love the Edifice I have. Amazingly priced (currently $94, Amazon) for such a finely finished watch. I also love the soft hands reset for the chrono, instead of the clicky-quick chrono reset of cheap watches. Reminds me of a Breitling on my list.

The knob at 8:00 for the rotating inner-bezel is also unexpected at this price.

Unlike you, I do like the bracelet and especially the beveling of the edges that they didn't have to do. It's very nicely done and not exactly the typical "oyster" style bracelet. The main surface is brushed and they polished certain areas:

I love the blue-green tones they use on the edifice line, I never see it anywhere else! Hard to argue with the value presented by these 👊🏼

Take a gander online and you may be surprised, they do tend to climb in price quickly after you hit the $100 mark!

I have had my eye on one of these for a long time, as I love the idea of a “pilot’s watch” however useless they may be in my own life 😂 I agree too about the bracelet on yours, it’s like a polished center link engineer bracelet, very classy indeed!

It’s a hard choice to make, but between the several offerings they have in the $100 to $200 price range I’m sure you’ll find the right one for you!

I'm wearing mine this evening.

I did an amateurish review of it a few months back. It's a great watch for the price.

Such a beautiful piece, it’s making me want one even more! I have the silver dial version in my cart now 😂

This screams Casioak louder than the G Shock does. I like it.

Nice one. Thinking about it about a week because of thickness 7mm and good implementation... and price is sweet :)

That’s exactly what I thought! Definitely leaning into Genta’s design language 🙌🏼

It sure is, I would jump on it while it’s still available for that price!

They sell loads of these, otherwise they’d have binned the line years ago.

They may sell loads of them to “non watch nerds” but I think that the watch nerd community tends to look past Casio’s other lineups like Oceanus and Edifice. I almost never see them in blogs or Instagram posts, especially compared to the flood of F-91Ws and G-Shocks!

Why does it matter what watch nerds think - we don’t buy the majority of watches. Casio doesn’t care, the Edifice line makes serious coin for them. We are not the narrative, money talks.

It’s not that it matters to Casio, it matters to the original post. Nobody is saying you’re wrong, and nobody is saying they should discontinue the line based off of the opinions of people in watch blogs. I’ve pointed out in other posts that watch nerds make up a tiny portion of the consumer population anyway.

“Watch nerds” (as you demeaningly put it) don’t control the narrative. The watch is unremarkable, and draws upon a tired trope. Edifice sell well, therefore they are not overlooked by the target market, which is not “watch nerds”. Tissot sell around 3 million units a year, other than the PRX (which make but a small proportion of that number) you don’t see them plastered over watch media. The sheer volume of sales of units means that they are not overlooked. Just because a circle-jerk of 50 people don’t talk about them doesn’t mean they don’t exist, or cannot be seen to do well by sales performance alone. So… to answer your thread title: no, because the numbers speak for themselves.

Well said lmao it was great talking to you

I have the S570D, that is supposed a solid link bracelet believe or not but it`s a great watch for the price.

Wow I'm a big fan of the Navitimer and this Edifice is one hell of a watch for $94. Even beats the 30M WR on the Breitling 😂 Do you have the reference no.?

Edit: looks like it's EF-527D

I love the Edifice line. I almost got the one you did but I ended up choosing the EFB-700 instead. The strap is perfect on this one
