Watch Shopping in Tokyo (Seiko Tuna)

This weekend I was able to pick up a Seiko SBBN035 at a cool little hole in the wall used watch and camera store, Mizutani Camera, in Ueno, Tokyo, Japan.

Tokyo is a great place for someone who loves watches.  There are used watch stores all over the place, but Mizutani Camera is by far the coolest watch store I have ever been to.

They have a fairly large assortment of watches from many brands, but their bread and butter is used/vintage Seiko and Grand Seiko.  There were quite a few Swiss brands sprinkled in there too.

If you are ever in Tokyo l recommend checking this store out.  If you have more expensive tastes there are a few stores around the area that sell higher end stuff like Rolex and Patek.

Oh I love stores like these!! it’s like a treasure chest and for me it feels warm and welcoming I love small shops, it doesn’t have the feel of ”haute” And pretentiousness, it could be just me and I’m judgmental lol I hope to visit Tokyo eventually!!

If you can, you should definitely take a trip to Tokyo, and hit up Kyoto while you are at it.

Stumbled onto this post late - but that store looks amazing - may I ask what price you paid for the watch and was there any haggling involved - curious if the shopping experience is different in Japan

I think with the exchange rate I paid around $900.  I did not try to haggle the price, from everything I have seen, haggling is frowned upon in Japan.  It is a cool little watch shop though, I try to stop by there every few months to see what they have in stock.

I suspected that haggling would be interpreted as disrespectful - thanks for confirming that.  That place looks awesome!

@cabarbhab, thank you very much for the recommendation. While the wife and daughter were in Ginza shopping, I took a trip to Mizitani Camera (and then Nakano) and Mizutani Camera was just as you described (and I much prefer the vibe of this small modest shop to Nakano). Saw 2 cool Seiko 6139s and am trying to decide between them and a watch I saw at Nakano broadway. Thanks again.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I agree it is better than Nakano Broadway. Nakano Broadway is geared more towards expensive luxury watches. Mizutani Camera is more down to earth, and you can't beat all the old Seikos.
