Goal: JLC Master Ultrathin

I've given this a lot of thought.

In 2 years and 8 months I will turn 50, the big 5-0. Not a spring chicken anymore. I decided that the gift I would give myself for my 50th is the Jaeger LeCoutre Master Ultra Thin Moon in pink gold (because 50 years = golden, right?)

Right now there is no way I could afford such an ambitious watch. But in 2-odd years, if I'm on track, I think I will be able to afford it.

The planets have to be aligned for this to happen. There should not be any family or personal emergencies/derailments along the way. The kid has to be on track to finish university by then. My career trajectory needs to be where I'm hoping it would be in order to afford this loftiest and most audacious of ambitions. I also have no serious plans of saving money for the watch. I need to be in a place in my life where, yes, a purchase like this will be a big spend but it shouldn't be something that eats up my world. If I need to save for 2 years to afford a watch I can't afford that watch. It should feel like extracting tooth. Painful, nerve-racking, but not life-threatening.

I'm not sharing this to flex. I mean, what could I possibly be flexing? That I can't afford a JLC? I'm sharing this as a declaration to the universe that I'm ready for a showdown.

There will be no safety watch. Second prize does not exist. It's either JLC or getting drunk in a foreign country. It can be both or either. But no other watches.

There, I announced it. Let's see if it happens.

Beautiful timepiece.

Good luck with your Quest.

·

Fantastic target watch👌Wish you all the best to make it happen.

·

Best of luck .... We will drink to it when you share the photo of you wearing it on your 50th birthday 🎂

·

Sometimes you have to put something out to the universe to make it happen. Good luck to you.

·

Thanks all for the encouragement! @thekris Yes, this is about putting something out to the universe and seeing what comes back. And if it doesn't happen? There's no shame in failing. It's just a watch. I'm going to have plenty to celebrate if I make it to 50.

·

Stunning watch...may you achieve your dream...and may it be as wonderful as you hope it to be.

·

Beautiful watch. I wish you well on your quest.

·

Great post! If I were ever going to buy a luxury dress watch that JLC is the one I would go for. I predict you will get your golden watch in time for your golden bday. Best of luck.

·

What a story that would make, eh? What makes you think I'd lose in a tequila drinking contest? I'll be 50, not dead.

·

Will definitely want to add a JLC to my collection in the near future!

·

Excellent choice, superb watch and lots of luck. Looking forward to that wrist shot!

·

That is a sublime watch. No messing around and can hang with the best of them :)

·

All the best in your quest to purchase one!!

·

This is my and my dad's favorite JLC ultra thin moonphase. My unrealistic grail is the rose gold perpetual calendar moonphase.

·

Make it happen! It would be a hell of a celebratory timepiece!

·

Excellent plan.. A beautiful watch also.. My son turns fifty next week and I have given him watches for his milestone times and he still wear a darn smart watch...

·

Great choice. 👍

·

Good luck.

·

Beautiful piece! A true watch guy's watch. Good luck watch friend!

·

We're rooting for you! I've seen that watch in the wild, and it is stunning. You'll have the watch and the story for the rest of your life. Good luck!

·

This watch is gorgeous! I am rootingfor you! Buona Fattura!

The rose gold JLC MUT (acronym city over here) is one of the most beautiful three-handers out there. Good choice and best of luck to you! It's definitely one of my grail watches, if only they'd start making the full range of Ultrathins in 36mm...

I too would like a smaller version. I’m giving them two years and eight months to get their sh*t together or else. Or else… I’ll buy it anyway.

Hah. My father is always scratching his head at my choices. He’s a Rolex guy and gets frustrated at my choices. Not just watches, he’s not a fan of my wardrobe as well.

Stunning watch and I enjoyed a different perspective on the self-imposed rules on obtaining your grail. What an appropriate Timepiece!!

Thanks. I think so too. Restrictions breed creativity in my business. In this case, restrictions create a less stressful goal.

They already have a 36mm Moonphase in steel, so it's not like they don't have the tooling for it! Not to mention, the smaller case allows for a better proportioned transparent caseback. Hopefully the recent trend away from oversized radio dishes for wristwatches will help persuade them...

Phenomenal choice, and all the best with achieving your goal. 💪

·

Beautiful watch and definitely a non-flex watch unless you are talking about watch geeks like those of us here but we're .1% and that's the only good kind of flex (99.9% of people you run into will have no idea what non-Rolex watch you are wearing).

I am currently considering a RG timepiece for my 40th too. 🙌
