Is there such thing as a Summer watch?

While i was listening to the most recent Worn and Wound Podcast, Kat and the team talked about summer watches and how some people buy watches just for the summer. Do you have a watch that you would call your “sunmer” watch?

Short answer is No. Most, if not all, influencers are there to achieve one thing - get people to buy more watches. Creating additional “needs” is one way they do it. Imo, seasons are within each of us and whatever we choose to wear is indicative of that.

·

When I hear summer watch I think of brighter dial colors. Not sure if that is what it means though.

·

Believe it or not, it is grounded in the science of chromatics (or colorimetry). The concept of a summer watch is similar to that of summer colors; usually neutral colors with a mix of bright, light, and playful colors. Personally, I will rock bright color watches year around, but I dare someone to look at the Watermelon and say it is not summer themed.

Now does one need a summer watch? Does one need a season for a colorful watch? Does one even need a watch? All larger questions for the universe to sort out. :-)

Or the Zodiac Watermelon:

Of course. There are for all seasons as Grand Seiko makes its name from the season specific models.

Here are a couple of watches I wear regularly during the summer:

Tudor BB58 Navy

Damasko DK 30 Ocean with in house movement

Nope, same people who say you need a summer watch also say you can’t wear white after Labor Day.

·

Ehh

I believe in a summer vibe more then watch all together.

I have straps that are brighter funkier colors for some of my watches

·

My take…it’s the opportunity to pick up something fun, colorful and fairly inexpensive…narrowing down this year’s summer watch now

·

I’ll stick with the whole “clothes we wear in summer” over a watch specifically for summer. Nonsense. For example: who would wear a heavy wool coat in the summer? Especially in the Deep South!

·

I think that it depends on what you do in the summer.

Lounging on a sandy beach is M5610 G-Shock territory for me and sprawling myself on a chair at a beach front restaurant is for the ISL-68.

Doing regular and standard stuff is for wearing regular and standard watches, just like I do during spring, fall and winter.

·

Yes.a few swatches and a luminox.

·

I guess it means whatever you’d like it to. I think a more colorful and playful looking watch is a good start, I think bigger chunkier watches that don’t need to fight the cuff of a shirt or coat are great on the summer too. That being said I’m wearing my boring ass Ranger all summer, because I do love the feeling of a big bracelet in the summer too.

Summer fun Casio… beautiful Sinn btw! 🤙

It has been a long, long winter and the SRPA83 can't wait to go out and play again. My summer go-to watch for sun and ocean worshipping...

To me a summer watch is bright, light, casual and comfortable. In the summer I wear different clothes, shoes and scents, so I want (I don't yet own) a watch that does the same.

It's a funny thing as to some extent I agree that it's a marketing concept, but if I am wearing very casual clothes I want a watch that looks right with them.

May I just post this for the umpteenth time?

On the rubber: Summer (and whenever I feel like it)

On the bracelet: Daily, for whatever weather or season

I have a ‘holiday’ watch for summery places, Breitling endurance pro. I do have different watches for different types of days, depending what I will be doing !

·

For me, a good diver is hard to beat as a summer watch with shorts and a t-shirt! But it depends on what you like to wear.

·

No, I have not bought a watch for a particular season. I can see why this is a thing especially if you have the ability to do it. I have looked at plenty of watches and said to my self that would be a great summer watch with its bright colors

·

I don’t have a purely summer watch, but I definitely purge straps on almost all of my watches.

·

My khaki filed white dial :)

I'm not locking up half my collection because we're into summer, and then swapping them out during winter. It sounds like BS to me.

I do find that the brighter colours come into their own when the sun's out (Pogue especially) but I don't see it as a concept really.

Pogue says summer…color combo alone

I think A decent diver with a colourful dial like a Doxa, Zodiac or Breitling works well. Go anywhere do anything watches. I would personally go for a Doxa like a Sub 200 or Sub 300T on rubber.

I love that Zodiac! And I love both that jubilee and rubber strap!

This ‘just keep swimming’ model (its message on caseback) was such a good deal!

2 bands and COSC for same price as models without those things

yup - with either band it’s a total summer watch 🤩

Think this will be my summer watch…just picked it up

I have my “summer watch” but I didn’t buy it for that purpose. I’ve simply realized that green Midp Ocean Star on orange strap feels good and looks right (to me) for summer holiday trips.

·

Have the same 556 on bracelet. Really need to wear it more. Love ❤️

Sinn.

Nice! Just posted this about my summer lineup if you're interested.
