Thoughts on the Tudor Ranger?

I was in a conversation last night talking about Tudors and was pleasantly surprised that the Ranger's price is in reach. I was on the lookout for a more reasonably priced Rolex Explorer-esque field watch and now I'm really warming up to the Ranger. I never owned a Tudor so I'm wondering what are they like, are things to consider with the Ranger in particular?

I'm not planning to buy it any time soon, but I've been genuinely curious about it and the brand.

It鈥檚 a solid all around field watch being Tudor explorer.

Seeing it in the flesh, the printed faux patina dial put me off.

I like the Ranger but I prefer the size on the older ones. You can go to a boutique to try one, it wears pretty well but I just prefer more vintage proportions. It has a great movement with an on the fly adjustment. I think it's great for its price.

Standard reply on Ranger posts - I fully regret selling my last generation model, wish I鈥檇 kept it. And it looks much better on the bund strap than the new ones do on a bracelet - more character.

It鈥檚 a great watch and you won鈥檛 regret buying it, imho. I don鈥檛 agree about 鈥渇aux patina鈥 rambling; it鈥檚 green, not trying to be faux patina. It鈥檚 simple and easy-going watch with a lot of character when you put it on wrist.

Faux patina doesn't really bother me honestly, I just think it's a fantastic looking watch regardless

If I wanted this style of field watch I鈥檇 be getting a CW C65 Sandhurst for less than half the price and still COSC

Decent enough but for something that looks this middling I wouldn't spend more than around US$500.

The CW is really nice but it's too wildly different to what interests me in the Ranger

Agreed. I think it's the painted indices that make it somewhat flat to me. No light play at all. I wish they had done something like this or more like the Rolex applied markers.

If you鈥檙e not planning buying one anytime soon, I would revisit this topic again when you鈥檙e in a position to pull the trigger
