milestone watch

Do you get a watch to mark a milestone in your life? Wedding, anniversary, birthdays, graduations, job promotions, retirement, becoming a parent or grandparent? What was the milestone and what watch did you get for it? I have a few coming up in the next 3 years and Im just curious what others have done.

When a ‘certain’ watch rolls around & Im in the mood, I make up the occasion.

I’m considering buying a watch to celebrate not having gotten fired from my job recently. Does that count?

Also thinking about getting one because I’ve gone 2 days without a drink.

I buy watches when I have the funds, and one strikes my fancy.

I don't really tie things to events/memories, just not how my brain works I suppose.

With @KristianG on this, just not how my mind works.

Nope, there are other things for which I use the excuse.

I'm new to watch collecting, having started in 2019 just buying whimsically, all cheap stuff that looked shiny. I made stupid purchases and over time I learned about brands, quality and movements. This site in particular has been a wealth of information, but more than that, people have stories attached to watches that strike my heart and add so much depth and character to collecting. People telling stories of anniversaries, retirements, first grandchild, that huge promotion or pieces handed down over generations...all very touching to me, especially the latter. And I never thought about a grail watch, but it was an "About" question in setting up one's profile here at WatchCrunch and I thought why not pick one and use its purchase to coincide with a special moment - which I'd never done before and why your question today interested me - so I chose Breitling's NAVITIMER B01 CHRONOGRAPH 46.

It is very much out of my comfort zone in price, but this will be my grail watch purchase at a time I need it most. It will serve lovingly as a remembrance piece that I will hand down to my son when my time comes. Time to start a tradition.

I bought one watch when I've quit my job 🤣

It was a smartwatch, Garmin instinct kind of a Garmin take on a G-shock.

It came in very useful, because my next job was in a gym as a trainer and it was well and quite used😅

Not too often. The one that comes to mind is a Brietling Chronomat bought to celebrate half a year quoting cigarettes. Still have it and still quit smoked cigarettes all these years later.

All my luxury watches are bought to commemorate work/life accomplishments/milestones.

My omega SMP 300M, IWC Pilot's Chronograph 41, Tudor Black Bay Pro, and Cartier Tank were all work related accomplishments with the pro counting double as a 31st bday present to myself. My grand seiko sbgw287 was to celebrate the birth of my son and becoming a father.

I'm hoping my parents will surprise me with a rolex datejust 36 for my first father's day, and I want to get myself a fears for my first father's day and 32nd bday this June.

I didn't plan on buying watches to mark occasions, but one way or another both my automatics arrived at good times - my first Explorient to mark my graduation from university, and then another to celebrate getting a new job.

I bought a promotion watch, #longinesheritage moonphase, and I love how it reminds me of that milestone every time I wear it.
