A short story of sharing watch hobbie with my girlfriend.
We were on the streets on Mumbai in a famous flee market just browsing and exploring.We came across few antique shops in the market and i naturally started looking at vintage watches and cameras.My Girlfriend spotted a HMT janata devnagari dial( devnagri is Sanskrit scripture which is a language used in India ) i recognised it was an aftermarket dail so even after her insisting we should get it I didn't.
But rejecting her the watch she vibed with couldn't sit with me very well, so i decided to find an exact one to gift her, i started hunting for exactly the same looking watch and yes, if a person likes someone and you want to gift it to them, it should be the exact same thing it cannot be anything else
So after finding a seller on Instagram he arranged one for me to pick up.
This is the pic I took after i gave it to her, the white one is the HMT janata and the black lume one is an HMT jawan with repainted dial. (The leather nato look bad on it because i made it myself)
This is the original photo she took of the watch at the antique watch. This was my reference for hunting the exact copy lol.
Freashly bitten by the watch bug. So with the budget of a broke student I start this journey to stay broke but with good watches with me.

Oh darn, this wasn't the standard "autistic watch nerd stymied by ditzy woman's sensible tastes" story for which I hoped.
Authenticity, whatever that even means, only matters to those who value it, and the OP seems to have realized this. Most hilarious is the fact that the unoriginal HMT is so ubiquitous that one can find readily find acceptable matches of another.
HMT is such an iconic Brand very much overlooked. I think because its so difficult to find one in its original form. This looks amazing.

Yes. The one original ones go for 10 times it's price of sale.
However HMT is still in business hanging on by a string held by collectors.
They make automatic watches and infact they released new one recently on their official website
