Omega Constellation Review

I’m someone with a small wrist, therefore I tend to lean towards watches within the 34-40mm range, occasionally snapping up one that’s 41mm.

The 1963 Omega Constellation Ref. 167.005 is the first vintage watch I picked up from online, through a horologist based in Singapore. He has nicely got this piece moving restoring a timepiece that was introduced all the way back in 1952 and till today, the constellation continues to be one of the flagship models of Omega. Firstly, as a 35mm size watch, I think it’s the perfect unisex watch in today’s context. Of course the attention of this piece would be the ”pie-pan” dial - defined by a domed and faceted shape.

On the dial, the name “Constellation“ highlighted by an applied gold star. Due to its age, patina can be spotted on the dial which to me, gives the watch its “vintage” status, somewhat like a battle scar for surviving all those years. The pie-pan dial gives the watch face some added dimensions which further gives notice to the hour and minute hands. Furthermore such dials were style icons of its time.

If there‘s one thing I have to mention about this watch which I dislike, it has to be the crown that is used to wind the watch and set the time. The crown is small, possibly due to the flatness of the watch and its size, which makes winding a challenge especially when the watch is being worn.

In summary, this vintage is definitely a keeper and I’m pretty sure there aren’t many in such a good condition.
