I tried it on at a GS boutique. Here are my observations:
Dial is out of this world
Although the spec sheet says 14.1mm thickness, wears much, much thinner in the metal - combination of curved lugs, small curved clasp, etc.
Don't know why everyone dumps on GS bracelets - most comfortable bracelets I've ever worn bar none
Hi-beat creates this truly mesmerizing sweeping seconds hand
I went into the boutique, planning on buying the SBGJ249, but completely counter-intuitively ended up deciding on the SBGE237 instead. I somehow got sucked into the lumed sapphire crystal bezel, and the 44mm diameter no longer scared me off, given how small GS's tend to wear.
I think the SBGJ249 is nothing short of phenomenal. Even though I'm an Omega fanboi, at this point, I would argue that GS offer a far more compelling product for a far more reasonable price than any other competitor on the market - superior aesthetics, Seiko-Epson quality and reliability, faceting and polishing that rivals anything that Liberace would deign to adorn his beautiful self with, and true rarity in that GS makes only something like a total of 40k watches per year compared to Rolex's 800k and Omega's 500k.
I think you'd be making a great choice. But, definitely try it on in-person first, if you haven't already.

nice dial but not a fan of the shortened GMT hand
