My SOTC - Watchbox 2 (3)

This is the part two of my SOTC post that I split into three. One for each watch box. My first box I called ”the modern one”.

This second box is the opposite. My heart in watchcollecting is vintage, specially Omega and the 50s and 60s. In my book the 50s and the 60s produced watch design at it’s peak. Not only dresspieces, as in this case, but also classic sportwatches like divers and chronographs. This period includes 2 of my absolute favourite designs. The Polerouter from Universal Genève and the Constellation Pie Pan from Omega. I like them so much that I thought it was worth including more than one of them.

Since these are a bit of age maybe a short description is helpful. From top row left:

Omega, ”Suveran”, -44

Omega, 2505, -50

UG Polerouter,-55

Omega Seamaster, 2846-3 SC, -58

UG Polerouter, -ca 59

Omega Constellation, 14381, -59

Omega Seamaster, 166.028/168.02, ca -65

Longines 30L -63

Omega Seamaster, 2767-3SC, ca -50

Omega Constellation Pie Pan 168.005 -68

Omega Constellation Pie Pan 168.005, ca -65

Omega Constellation 168.029, -69

Jealous.

I whole heartedly agree with you about peak watch design.  You have captured it in that box.  I am a huge Seamaster fan, but the Polerouters are the stars of the show.  Well, maybe the Suveran is.  It's like an All-Star cast.

Pure Class! 😍

Better than expected, well done as always. Sure you’re not @Omeganut in disguise?

Thanks! Well, he has ”abandoned” the brand for Grand Seiko. The 166.028/168.02 has, however, some resemblence of the Grand Seiko SBGV245.

Thank you! Beside some historical connections to Scandinavia and Sweden it has been all about their looks. I found them incredibly beautiful in their simplicity. The fact that they have pretty reliable movements isn’t a bad thing either.

Your intro says you have a boring watch collection....I don't think so!  Lovely collection.  And aspirational as well.  Right now I have all modern watches but once I learn a bit more, I definitely need to pursue the vintage route.

Thank you for sharing!

Amazing collection!! That is an absolutely breathtaking assortment of fine mid-century, Swiss watches from the top makers.

My favorite is the cal. 30L Longines, which was (imho) the best manually wound movement they ever made.

Here is mine 😀

Thank You. The description as boring is related to the fact that many of my watches are light colored, dressy 3-handers in a small size by today’s size standard and in a time when many raise the question if a dresswatch is needed. Like a box full of black divers where only a collector in that cathegory appreciate and notice all the details. But I will rethink my intro. It isn’t so informative anyway.

Vintage is ”fun” there are so many models out there. By investigating the internet it’s like you experience ”new releases” every day.

Thank you sir! Longines has some lovely watches in their catalogue. Yours is beautiful. Love the creamy and ”simple”dial.

·

That black dial Polerouter, though!!!👌

The only thing Genta ever did that I like.

Your collection looks exactly the way I imagine my collection, even though I don't own a single one of those! I too feel that late 50s early 60s was the pinnacle of watch design, UG Polerouter and Omega Constellation Pie Pan being two of the most iconic designs of that period.

If I collected pictures of watch collections, yours would be my favorite!

·

What an incredible collection of vintage Omegas. Very cool stuff!

Wow!

I think what’s obvious is there are different levels of watch collecting amongst the “enthusiasts “

heres most of us talking about our Seiko’s and then we have the higher echelon with next level collecting.

I salute you

I think I’ll get my hat and coat ……

Thank you! I love to talk about my and others Seikos. Lovely watches. I’m eagerly awaiting the new SPB313 in July.

Take your time. This is not a sprint. It’s a marathon. If you really want to add similar watches you probably will but it is easy to get distracted by new and shiny ones.

Amazing!!  I am drooling over your collection.  I love these SOTC, keep them coming!!

The Polerouter is a gem. The box is from http://trendhim.com It is the ”Warren Asher” in ash wood. I have both the 12 and the 6 slots version. I’m very pleased with them.

·

That UG Polerouter tho. Hot damn 😍

·

That's a really nice collection!
