My GMT slot is empty - Do you have any suggestions?

Could you help out and suggest a GMT?  I like the idea of multiple time zones displayed on the watch. I can’t say I need one, but it’s sort of cool. I have a set of ”utility watches” (or whatever the proper term is) but the GMT slot is empty. I have stumbled over a few but I can’t say I have a good overview of what is out there and my possibility to get hands on experience is limited. The ones I come across has been quite expensive but there must be ”bang for the buck” options I haven’t spotted. I prefer 40mm or smaller. These I have knowledge of:

Rolex Explorer II Polar 16570: Great watch but the price on pre-loved market has made it too expensive.

Tudor Black Bay GMT: Has the ”right look” but IMO too big for me

Tudor Black Bay Pro: Seen only in picture. Maybe too similar look to my BB58

Rolex GMT: Classic but expensive and, of course, waitlisted and I’m not a big fan of the super case.

Christopher Ward C63 Sealander: Only seen in pictures here on WC but l think they look great.

Grand Seiko SBJ 249: Beautiful but maybe too beautiful for a GMT (IMO)

Do you have a favorite that you think could be a good GMT addition to my mix? I’m a bit on the dark side in this segment but maybe this is the one with a pop of color.

The CW C63 GMT in white is in my wishlist for a while, I just keep putting other watches in from of it lol. If you are only looking for the watches in your list I most definitely recommend the CW!

Now, if you are open to new ideas, I can suggest other 2 watches that are, at this moment, competing with this CW:

  • The GS SBGN003:
    - IMO the best use for quartz in a watch is in a GMT. I usually travel with only one watch and, as consequence of that, keep using the same watch for several days consecutively. The high precise movement on the GS will keep the time accurately without the accumulative deviations on a mechanical movement;
    - 39 mm of pure perfection;
    - You can track "ONLY" 2 time zones (Like the CW C63 or the Rolex Explorer 2);

Image
  • The Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT:
    - Nice execution with that vintage aesthetic;
    - Huge with 42 mm;
    - You can track 3 time zones;

I’ve been having the same itch lately.

I’ve been looking at Farer GMTs among others. They have a nice splash of color.

One GMT I found very appealing is the Monta Skyquest GMT. Maybe you’re lucky and can get one: https://montawatch.com/products/preorder-of-monta-skyquest-gilt-dial-bi-color-aluminum-bezel

Thanks! Nice watches all. Of your suggestions I liked the Sinn 6060 best at first glance. That one I will definetly take a closer look at.👍

I’m definetly interested in suggestions outsider my experience list. The CW63 is still on the prospect list. The GS I will take a closer look at. 39mm is perfect. I remember now that I actually tried the Spirit Zulu on. But as you say, big. It’s also to close to my Spirit ”Flieger”. Thanks!

I love the look of this (if you want a black dial...) the white is incredible also

I took a look at their website. The ones with bezel looked great and with a healthy lug to lug. Thanks!

It is a beaty indeed. But I streched myself with the almost 50mm lug to lug on my Spirit. A looker all the same. Thanks!

It did look great. Both the Polar and the black. Nice dimensions. Impressing water resistance. I thought you travelled by plane with a GMT🤨Thanks!

From the pictures the white looked fantastic. I got some GS alternatives now so I will plan for a visit to an AD. Thanks!

CW 63 Sealander GMT is an outstanding choice.  I've got a Hirsch pure rubber strap coming in to put on this watch and I cannot wait.

I ma glad you liked. If you are interesting in that GS SBGN003 you can take a look on this review from You Are Terrific:

I have looked at the white but your black looks great. I saw there where a green with an interesting structure on the dial but the plain (glossy?) dials maybe is more ”crisp”.

Take a look at the Montblanc #Geosphere. It's another take on a #GMT. I have the original black dial and it's amazingly interesting. Other variations have been released, but the globes make it so special. Plus it has a second 12-hour register on the dial for second time zone.

Glycine Airman GMT. They are one of the first ones to start the GMT trend back in 1953.

^This.  Glycine makes some really lovely GMT pieces and they're generally really affordable.  They've now got a few in the Combat Sub line as well.

It looks very promising from pictures. I hope to have the opportunity to try one on in June.

I'm looking for a GMT myself.  I'm on the fence between the Tudor BB PRO or the Longines Zulu.  Both beautiful watches.  Can't decide.  Help.

Well done to have trimmed it down to two💪

I love grand seiko but really look and let your wrist do the talking. There is so many right now good luck.

Haha, that "trimmed" down list was yesterday.  That said list changes every time I wake up in the morning.

·

I Have been brooding the same question, personally I think the retail price for the Tudor Black Bay Pro is more than justified at first I was rather hesitant because of the height of the watch at 14.6mm however it wears thinner on the wrist as it does on paper. But by no means is thin

Having tried both the bracelet and the leather/rubber strap i think the bracelet suits the watch more, hopefully our pal Uncleseiko will bring out a 1450/ Jubille bracelet for this watch

I haven’t been able to try on the Pro yet. It do looks promising.

Truth be told i had visited my AD to try on the pepsi GMT he didnt have it showed me this instead, now can't stop thinking about it

·

I own a couple of quartz (8F56) powered Seiko GMT's, for my money the best way to go is perpetual calendar. On the mechanical side, the BB Pro is nice and, as others have stated, it wears a little thinner than 14 + mm.

The Grand Seiko shown above is a nice option, GMT, quartz and 39mm case - who could ask for more?

I own the Longines Spirit Zulu Time with green bezel.  It has become my favorite watch by far and I wear it daily.  My only complaint is that the bezel isn't as green as it looks on their website, unless in full sunlight. Indoors it pretty much looks black, but I still love it.
