A new odd ball - Omega Constellation 168.0065

I was initially looking for a steel Constellation Pie Pan 168.005 from the 60s. Steel case with a silver dial with onyx indicis. They are hard to come by in a nice condition. Then I came aware of this odd ball, the 168.0065. It’s been called ”the last dog legged Pie Pan”. It is an Japan version produced in a short run in the early 70s. Instantly I found it similar to the 168.005. But there is differencies. The movement is the 1011. The model is slimmer. The thing that stands out to me is Omegas decision to swap position of ”Omega” and ”Constellation”. So Omega logo has a strange position at 6. The traditional star is absent. The crown is different as well, with a round shape instead of the typical decagonally shape of the 165.005. A bit of a trade off, but what it do has is the sharp edges of the 12 edged Pie Pan. The dial is very crisp silver dial with no trace of patina. For me it’s a stunner.

This particular watch was purchased from Japan. What I have found is that, when buying from reputable dealers, they don’t exaggerate the condition of their watches. With my limited experience the watches are in described condition or better.

So, you are now the Omega Nut and he is now a hot chick who likes Grand Seiko. Who is going to Watch Your Intruder?

She's a looker.

Thank you👍

·

Well I know. Maybe it’s a bit too much. But those watches really gets my attention. I maybe just ad a prefix or suffix saying Omega.

·

It's ok I guess.

You can always flex your Polerouter to make me jealous.

THIS fixes my only gripe I'm having with with the Constellation: Finally no gaudy star on the dial. I know, I know, the observatory... But I simply can't stand stars on dials. That's why many pieces by Longines are so low on my inner tier list.

Fabulous reference!!

Thank you🙏 I don’t mind the star. In fact I like it. Most of all I’m surprised that Omega skipped it in this final stretch.

Yes my friend, but then it'll escalate.

I'll be with my Polerouter like:

And then you'll come back at me with your OTHER pie-pan....

I could perhaps then flex the Cartier, but then you'd be all up in my face with a JLC and a speedy...

I know a battle I cannot win when I see one.

I’m drooling over that. Wow.

What the kind of condition did they describe the watch? 'Slightly used?'

Looks darn near mint to me. Congratulations on a bitchin'... what's the rap term for watches?

It was described as ”Good”, and to that I agree.

Thank you! It’s cordovan. Normally I think cordovan is a tough one. No texture or pattern. But this in green I think will stay on.

Beautiful timepiece 😎

Beautiful and interesting 😍

I think the earliest versions had some quality issues (I heard). It is also considered to be a less beatiful design. I don’t care about that. I will never open that case back. And according to my watchmaker they are good to go. And exactly, if that is good enough, that will give you a great watch to a lesser price.

You're sure the seller's Japanese and not a spatially displaced Brit?

Drink to replenish the water that was evaporated from just reading that description

I really like the constellation series. Very classy, IMO.
