The metal "casioak" gm2100-1a review

Happy weekend watchcrunch, few weeks ago my friend suddenly gave me a g shock for no reason or any event. i was surprised and happy at the same time. to be honest im not really big fan of g shock, sure it is very practical and tough watch, some of them are beautiful but i like more classic looks and automatic or manual movement. and also my previous g shock (which i still have) the ga201ba got 52mm diametre and 15mm thickness looks too big for my tiny wrist, but lets keep open minded on this one shall we.

so the g shock he gave me is a gm-2100, its an upgrade to famous ga-2100 (aka casioak) with stainless steel case and dial. i admit its a beautiful watch, also the size are fit for my tiny wrist.

case and dial:

its 42mm diametre and 11mm thickness. its pretty wearable. back then big case g shock was on trend (like my ga201ba), but this time they go with another smaller way and i really appreciated it. the side case is closed to dw series in my opinion, and the dial is made from stainless steel. it is nice to have different colour dial since all of my collection are black 😅. the dial also display very simple subdial like day with a hand, and digital display for minute and second or you can change to a various other function. it is functional for average person like me, to be honest i dont need barometer, bla bla bla function like other more complicated g shock

crystal and lume:

crystal is made from usual mineral glass and i was afraid to scratch the crystal since it is sitting flat on the case (my previous g shock crystal sitting a little bit bellow the case), only time will tell. lume isnt great, it is just on the hand and didnt shine brightly enough. you also got nice white led on the 5 position.

back case and wr:

it is a solid backcase with 4 screw with 20 bar water resistant. from my previous experience i got no problem taking it swimming on the water, its a tough watch.

strap:

it is a 24mm rubber strap with a gritty square texture on it. and i quite liking it, it didnt leave sweat or smudge thx to the texture. it has a quick release too so good job for g shock

conclussion:

i was surprised by this metal casioak. in my mind i always thinking g shock always a tough and a big watch as i lost in a big case g shock trend back then. and i realized they also have a few other smaller nice variant (dw, gm, gdb series, etc). now this gonna be my new beater watch other than my laco and my seiko srpg. thx for reading, enjoy your g shock watchcrunch 🍺

note:

still hate how to adjust the time though 😂
