what do you guys think of glycine airman

hey watchcrunch i needed your opinion. what do you think of this glycine gl0071? i want to buy my first swiss piece and i dont have any gmt genre on my collection. im torn between this glycine dc4 or squale atmos 30 gmt. squale is nicer in design but looks like homage of the rolex gmt, on the other hand glycine style is more tool than a watch and got a rich gmt history on the airman model, yes it is not as handsome as squale in my opinion but the airman got a unique character which i dont find on any other gmt watch. so what do you guys think? has anyone got experience with the airman? is it good quality? thx

I have no experience with Glycine but this watch does look awesome and quirky with that 24-hour instead of 12-hour dial

The watch that you have pictured is the GL0072, not the 71 — the difference is in the 24 v. 12 hour dial.  This design is one of my favorites.  I have a very similar piece in the GL0217, which is the same watch but came on an olive green NATO, rather than a black one.  I swapped it for a beads of rice bracelet, which I strongly prefer:

The quality is excellent for the money.  I don’t think you’d regret picking one up.

I'm thirsting after one myself - but for me, I'd find the 24 hour dial tough to read day to day. I think they're fantastic...

I have never used a 24 hr dial.  The hour hand is simple to understand. At a quarter after the hour will the minute hand be on the 6 on the bezel(as pictured)?  I love the AM/PM indicator.  Right side of the dial for AM, Left for PM. That mechanical bezel lock is a bit crude by todays standards.  Don't care for the cyclops window.  Sorry but I am not a fan.

It’s ok mate, I think glycine will be a good choice if you are into the unique but admittedly plain aviation watch look

In response to your question, yes, the minute hand operates normally.  Basically, for modern 24 hour dials, they omitted the regular hour hand from a GMT movement and stuck the hour hand onto the pinion for the GMT hand.

I generally hate cyclops windows as well, but I find that this one isn’t such a big deal.  The mechanical bezel lock is actually a pretty elegant solution to keep the bezel in place given that it’s a bidirectional friction bezel, like what is on the new Seiko 5 GMTs.  Yema uses a similar system on some of its watches.

I’ve never seen a fake Airman — they’re not that widely known.  However, you could always ask for a photo of the case back, which should have a display caseback with a Sellita SW330-1 inside, a decorated rotor, and indications for 20ATM water resistance.

I have owned a Glycine Airman. Good watches as long as you don’t pay full retail imho (they don’t really hold their value very well). I like the brand’s heritage and they make many handsome watches. Good luck with  your decision!

around 800$-850$ in my (rupiah currency) which is make sense for me

That's an OK price -- not great, not terrible.  That said, there's currently one on eBay with a bid price of $595 and a buy it now of $795.
