As Unserious As A Watch Can Be; A Review

A few years ago, I saw this video of an artist carving English gunsmith style designs into an Omega bracelet.

Now the watch I'm reviewing today is as far away from that display of artistry as one could get while still being related to it.

I bought the Forsining Tattoo (what I'm designating as it's model name) in 'silver' after seeing @DariusII post his with the golden accents.

While the Tattoo obviously cannot be seriously compared to the watch that the carved bracelet in the video belongs to, seeing that Tattoo made me think back to that video.

I've always been able to appreciate the skill & talents involved in creating intricate machines & artwork, even if I didn't necessarily LIKE the piece I was admiring. It's only been the last 10 years or so that I've learned to separate admiration for skill & talent from my taste.

I bought the watch for what it represents TO ME, not because it is an amazing time-telling device. I have other watches, a phone & a computer that serve that purpose better.

So, while the Tattoo may not be exactly my taste, to me it is a watch that represents the difference between admiration for skill and actually liking something.

I've worn it for 6 days now. It arrived from Amazon (4 days in transit. Prime, my ass) in a decent box and packaging for the sub-$50 price; well protected against scratching itself during shipping.

The case size, with crown is 44mm, the crown is 3.5mm, so 40.5 to 41mm. L2L is 50mm, thickness is a bit chonky at 14.5, but still quite wearable under a cuff. Lug width is 20mm. The bracelet has a slight 20/18 taper from lug to clasp. My wrist is 7.5".

The bracelet was easy to size using the basic watch tools from Amazon. Simple pin removal.

I took out 3 links and it fits on my 7.5" wrist rather loosely, which I prefer. I might be able to take out another link, but with the lack of micro adjust, I err on the loose side.  😉

The case/bracelet finishing is obviously not amazing. However, looking at the 'engraving', I'm not seeing any obvious signs of quality failure in the molding/casting/CNC/whatever process they use to achieve the carved look. All the lines in the designs are clean, defined & consistent. Really rather impressed. I was sort of expecting some mold failure and elements that should be separate being joined or voids where there shouldn't be.

Positives: The cost, the design; it's a fun piece to wear, the open caseback, the butterfly clasp (not it's operation, just the fact that it has one), the day/night indicator (it's not really functional, but it is fun), the automatic winding movement, the hands are legible enough to know what general time it is at a glance and they have good enough lume to last through a movie.

Image

Negatives: Function of clasp(should be slightly easier to close w/o using the side releases), size of crown makes it a little difficult to wind & set the watch (Thank heaven for the automatic winding), bezel slop (The bezel does turn, but without minute markings, it's kind of pointless, except maybe as a fidget spinner).

I would pay $75-$100 if the clasp closure, bezel slop & crown size issues were improved.

Overall, I like having this watch as part of my collection & for the price? Zero regrets. Even if it breaks in two years. It's just a fun piece, not a serious watch. If you want a time-telling piece, look elsewhere, but for sub-$50, it's just fun.

My recommendation of buy is for those who want to have a little legal fun for $50.

Damn that's a lot of detailing and for $50, bargain. Look like the perfect watch to accompany me when I get my purdys out on the estate to go shooting some peasants,,er I mean pheasants. Brave buy and thanks for sharing 👍

Thx for sharing and putting this out there cause as a newbie to the watch world I was a bit concerned that my interest in entry level watches I can afford, ex. Dan Henry, Brew, Swatch etc. that I might get some heat sharing with a watch community that has so much knowledge/appreciation for higher class watches that I’m still learning about. Cheers 🍷

You know… it almost has minute markings, in those points carved at the right place. I would be very tempted to carefully get in there with some paint. Blue at the twelve at least. Maybe even some translucent lume or a Sakura glow marker.
