Dreaming

Let’s pretend……You just got a letter from an attorney. The letter states that an uncle, that you had never contacted before, or even spoken to was killed in a car accident and you’ve been mentioned as his soul heir to his estate of $10.2 million. What’s the first watch that you would buy for yourself as a celebration?

Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

The truth is, there isn’t much over $20k that I’m interested in. For whatever reason, I don’t see the “value” in really expensive watches. Sure, it’s all relative, but I think over $10k is a definite no go for me. I just don’t care about horology enough to appreciate the tiny parts carved out of Genta’s baby teeth or whatever it is that makes them so expensive. I’ll take a gold Speedmaster or platinum Daytona like all the other unimaginative d-bags with more money than sense.

Now cars on the other hand…

My expensive choice hasn't changed for quite a while:

I agree I thought about this for a while, and I thought about the only thing I would really like would be a Deep Sea dweller, “James Cameron”Rolex. I’ve already got a Sea Dweller, because I couldn’t afford the “Deep Sea Dweller.”

Too easy. A vintage Omega Seamaster 300 0552 "big triangle"

Definitely the Speedmaster Canopus Gold for me

In reality, I don't celebrate anything by buying watches and find the whole idea odd.

I'd give the banal answer of a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date, but I'm pretty sure they won't let anyone walk in off the street and buy one of those without blowing $100K or more on Tudors and other other lesser models, or at least a bunch of other jewelry. I'd probably have to start shopping Hublot instead.

Rose Gold Patek Phillippe Calatrava, reference 6119R-001. It is simple and classy. Perfect watch for me.

Just kidding … I would fork out on a trip to Japan with a visit to the Seiko museum and while in Japan I would look to buy something along the following lines - a spring drive GS without the irritating power meter on the dial …

Yeah, I never liked those power meters on an automatic. I didn’t think they serve any purpose.

If you’re wearing it, what’s the difference how much power you have left? I think it just screws up a beautiful face.

·

I’ve always liked these too but they’re a little bit too pricey, but that wouldn’t be a problem in this case. 😉
