My Black Friday bargain (a short essay)

Picked this up over the black Friday weekend from the Aragon website. Didn't intend to make a post about it but I have been floored by the quality, especially for the price.

While not to everyone's taste, I love bright and interesting colours and this slime green sunburst and white ceramic bezel combo is as bright as it gets and is very unique. Another unique point is the hour markers which are solid blocks of lume that look like they are rising up from the dial (no idea what they are but they look really interesting)

The lume is incredibly bright, the lumed crown is as bright as the hands and lasts a really long time.

Seiko NH35 (shocker). Sapphire crystal. Solid stainless bracelet with a nicely milled clasp. The finish is brushed all over aside from the edge of the bezel, it is very fine and looks really well done.

Genuinely struggling for things to complain about when it comes to the spec and finish quality as it is far better than I expected when ordering. Bezel allignement is ever so slightly off and that is me trying really hard to find anything wrong with this watch (even that is better than most Seiko divers I have seen!)

One point to make is that it is a chunky watch and feels even bigger than it's already large 43mm case width would suggest. the bezel steps out to a 45mm diameter, it is 14mm thick and weighs in at 200g with 4 links removed. Definitely not a watch you will forget you are wearing but it does carry its heft very well and doesn't look too big on my 7 inch wrist at all.

Side note: this is actually the smaller model and they do a gargantuan 48mm version so I guess it being chunky and eye catching is kind of the point 😂

In conclusion, if I had paid the retail price of $300 I would be happy with my new watch...

But I didn't.

If I had paid the sale price of $160 I would be over the moon and this would make a few appearances on the WRUW page...

But I didn't.

I paid $85. Hence the essay.

That's a real beauty. I own the blue/blue combo of the Divemaster 4 "EVO", as well as quite a few other Aragon models. It's really just a "no-nonsense" dive watch. The indices are a product known as "lumi-cast."They're a polymer material, w/ lume pigment mixed throughout. Generally speaking, Aragon watches are great value for the money. Particularly when you catch one of the sales that Wing regularly runs.

Not that they are without flaw by any means though. To the contrary. I occasionally find slight QC issues w/ them, which is to be expected at this price. Especially considering that they're both designed and assembled in the US. The manufacturing is done in China (where exactly I'm not sure of).

Ultimately, no matter what price-point you purchase these watches at, from a market perspective, they're worth at least what you paid for them. Generally speaking, you just have to be okay with wearing slightly larger watches. Myself, I own watches at both ends of the spectrum. From 39mm to 52mm, and depending on the day, cycle through them in trends. Some days I don't mind wearing something larger. Other days I prefer smaller pieces. Considering I change watches 3, sometimes 4 times per day, my collection of around 20 watches gets cycled through regularly. Wear it in good health my friend...

This is the only Aragon I have had hands on experience with and I was super impressed for the price. Luckily no QC issues I could spot 😁 would definitely pick another up

I wear a wide range of watch sizes depending on my mood. This wears bigger than the dimensions imply, is about as big as I like to go and it is the smaller version aha. Still really love it and plan on keeping it around for a long time

It does wear larger than it's stated 43mm case diameter, which you initially pointed out. The bezel overhang, does in fact make it wear like a 45, because visual, IT IS!!!!😅

I laugh but it's kinda not funny. This is a "technique"(shall we say), that Wing employs regularly. The reason, I believe, is 2-fold. 1) It allows for better all around bezel purchase. 2) When designing he prefers the look of larger timepieces, and doesn't want people to be put off by the larger dimension.  The second one is speculation on my part, but having followed him for years now, I feel fairly certain this is the case.
