Any ideas as to the brand?

I thought I’d throw it out there if any of you very knowledgeable watch enthusiasts on WatchCrunch have any ideas about the origins of this watch. Looking at the pictures I can’t see any logo or markings on the watch and the seller knows nothing about watches, so not very helpful with any questions.

It’s missing the crown and stem but that shouldn’t be any issue, I have bits and pieces lying around. I just thought for the asking price of $25 AUD it might be a fun little project to see if I can get it up and running once again.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It's a good looking watch. I wouldn't have a clue as to the brand. The movement might give you an indication but that's not guaranteed. What about the case back? Does it have any markings on the inside?

Pop the back - it’s less about the brand and more about the movement.

Yeah I think I’ll just buy it and gross my fingers that it’s a little Swiss movement inside which is in reasonably good shape. Cost me more to buy my cigar’s than the cost of the watch, so not much to loose 👍

Nothing on the case back from what I can see in the pictures. I think I’ll just take the gamble and buy it, cost me more for the cigar’s I smoke than the cost of the watch 🍻

You are probably correct - it will more than likely than not be a 15J movement, but unless you can see it will be difficult to judge unless you pop the back. I appreciate as an eBay thing this will be after you purchase it.

If you take it apart the details are likely going to be under the balance wheel, or failing that on the movement side under the dial.

I would recommend using the Dr Ranfft database as a guide going forward. You can use an advanced search on there using some visual clues and get in the right ball park.

Great information my friend. See I knew that someone like yourself with a wealth of knowledge would be able to guide me in the right direction. I’ve had little to do with vintage watches so I thought it best to seek a bit of advice before buying the watch.

Thank you once again for your help and time. 🙏🏻
And once I get my hands on the piece I’ll probably post some pictures of the movement and it’s condition 👍

I’ve added a link to the database to my previous post. Bookmark it, it’s the best thing out there.

Here‘s hoping it’s a decent movement and not a bag of wasps.

The Nekkid watchmaker you tube channel restores those basket case vintage pieces. That's a resurrection not a repair project. Go for it and get the experience. There are a lot of vintage parts out there and a lot will cross over brands.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjsLJ7kArBQ different watch

The Nekkid YouTube channel is one of my favourites and I’ve watched his videos numerous times over, he is funny but also incredibly skilled at watch restorations. I haven’t got much to loose so I’ll be grabbing the watch and we’ll see how I go 🤞I’ll post a couple of pictures of the watch once it arrives 👍

Cheers

Okay after firing a few more questions at the seller the watch is only 23mm by 28mm so it's actually a ladies watch 😩

The crown is missing as I already knew but it seems the seconds hand is also missing and unfortunately it's not floating around in the case somewhere, it seems to have disappeared.

Dame shame, but I'll be giving it a miss I think.

Ok - good to know that now. Ladies watch movements of that period are a work of art. Cramming everything in the larger movements into 5x7 is just mind-blowing.
