Titanium Diver Hunt SBGA463 SLGA015 or Pelagos?

The new SLGA015 is beautiful. First viewing had me hooked. I like wearing a diver as a daily.  I wore a MM300 for a year as a daily.  Weight, size etc didn't bother me. Looking at the dail usually created little moments of Zen. Of course I didn't worry about it being fragile.  I own a Snowflake and love it. (YES, this is a totally different watch) Spring Drive,  Titanium and Zaratsu fit and finish are addicting.  So... I looked at a Prospex LX. The LX is very similar in design to the 300m & close to a GS SBGA463 in price. I have owned a black dial Pelagos (regret selling it to a close friend ... there was just something missing for me) The SBGA463 is beautiful but the SLGA015 is beyond. That said: SLGA015 price point is 11K plus USD. The SBGA463 is 7K USD and the Pelagos is $4,700.0 USD. Do I sell the Snowflake for the SLGA015? Do I  see if a Blue Face Pelagos stirs my soul? Do I save money and buy a SBGA463? Probably will get my best pricing on the SBGA463. There has to be more than a few WC collectors who have owned two out of the three divers.

I feel like we've had this conversation before, yeah?  Am I wrong?

[Totally random side note:  I've had 3 episodes of Transient Global Amnesia, and when I do a literature search, there have been papers written about people who've had 2 episodes, it's that rare!  Makes me feel like Guy Pearce!]

Got it...

The question I was trying to answer for myself was, is it worth it to me to pay $4,300+ for the SLGA015 over the SBGA463 for the following:

  1.  Kuroshio / Black Current dial
  2.  Evolution 9 case design
  3.  5 days of power reserve versus 3 days

In my own idiosyncratic case, the answer was "no."  I already have the SLGA007, with wavy dial.  I already have Evolution 9 case watches.  I always rotate my watches, so duration of power reserve means nothing whatsoever to me.

However, if this were my 1 GS, I would hold out for the SLGA015.  I mean, why compromise?  A tactical police unit could enter your home tomorrow, shoot you to death, and then realize, "Oh, sh*t!  The warrant is for 307 Maple Drive!  This house is 317 Maple Drive!  So sorry about that sucking chest wound, sir."

Dude...  the primary photo of your post is the SLGA015.  The SBGA463 and the Pelagos are both sequestered away in the body of the post.  That tells me all I need to know!

I mean, it's like...

  • I CAN'T STOP THINKING about this amazing car!  The Cayman GT4 RS has got everything I ever wanted in life!  It's top of the line!  Did the Nurburgring in 7:16:15!

  • I used to own this, before I sold it to a friend, but it was in black.  Maybe the blue will make me want to keep it?

Which one should I get?

From experience, I say follow @Omeganut ’s logic. I did, and I couldn’t be happier 🙂

I was in a similar dill of a pickle. I had a 41mm Rolex OP that I just wasn’t connecting with. I knew I wanted a good daily with a blue dial, but the OP just left me wanting. I dug deeper and realized I wanted a date, and just a different design language in general. But I also wanted something sub 12mm thick as I loved that about the OP. What I wanted the SLGH009.

But, it was $10.5k which is a lot of money, so I basically ruled it out. I started looking for other watches that may fit the bill. That’s when the SBGH273 came into play. It checked most of the boxes, and was considerably less expensive. So, I did what you are doing and reached out to the WC community for sage wisdom and guidance.

My post was, “Would you trade in an OP41 for the SBGH273?”  As the conversation got deeper I revealed that I liked the SBGH273 because it was similar to the SLGH009. I wanted a similar watch because I actually wanted the SLGH009.

So, I got the 009 and I’ve never been more satisfied/content with a purchase.  And it sounds like you know which one you want too.

If I had the chance to get a Spring Drive movement, I would. Out of pure jealousy, I hope you land a Seiko Spring Drive. That’s a lifer👁
