Love or hate the ratcheting clasp?

There is no doubt some Seiko & Grand Seiko dive watches have an unusual clasp. The Seiko clasp is either loved or hated. At first, I was sucked into online reviews that trash talk the clasp.  Once you own one, I am blessed to own 2, you become addicted.  As much as I enjoy a great sounding bezel rotation I loves me a good Seiko wracheting clasp! The sound/tactile experience is all part of ownership fun! The GS version in Titanium feels thin and cheap. I used to say that about my MM300 clasp. Now it feels hefty and sturdy. I know both clasps are built to last. Bottomline: MM300 retails over 3K & GS SBGA463 at over 7K. Seiko & GS can do better than stamped metal at this price point. Is this clasp overengineered and antiquated or just old school hard-core cool?

Never had the opportunity to wear one, but the idea intrigues. Hot day, let it out a notch (or two).

How does it look while wearing on the bare wrist?

But as to your question, so many "antiquated" things end up being "cool" when the "right" person wears it. As for me, I'd want to have at least one due to the nature of what I'm trying to achieve with my collection.

It's fantastic cosplay!  It's the exact right engineering solution to a problem that 99.999999999999999999% of dive watch buyers will never experience.  Traditional on-the-fly bracelet adjustment mechanisms require you to undo the clasp, which then exposes you to the danger of dropping your watch into the murky depths.  And, well, when you're 150M below the surface, and your life depends upon your trusty mechanical dive watch, that's just foolhardy!

So, GS have come up with a solution that enables you to adjust without any danger of your life-preserving cutting-edge technology getting dropped.

I just wish that they would come up with an engineering solution for life's other big conundrum:  How to eat Cheetos without staining your fingers a deep orange hue.

It feels great - kind of a counter balance to a big dive watch on the opposite side of your wrist.  Not gonna lie, it's thick and a little bulky.  The MM300 has. An aftermarket strap. I wish they made one for GS to add the ratcheting clasp. The bracelet on both is a big bling. The rubber strap tames the bling & brings out Zaratsu polishing on the case . The rubber strap may cause the strap to fit a little off center based on your wrist size

Seiko, IMHO has never been prime on bracelets and clasps.  That being said Seiko knows how to make stuff that lasts.  I do wish they would get rid the dreaded pin and collar bracelet system once and for all.

That being said, I keep my MM300 on the stock bracelet and clasp and I love it.

I've always thought Grand Seiko needs to raise their bracelet and clasp game. Their movements are great and the dials ... wow. The bracelets and clasps let them down. When I got my SBGN003 I couldn't wait to take it off the bracelet.

The SBGN003 is a great watch.  You are absolutely correct on bracelets and clasps with GS. The bracelet on my SBGA463 is very comfortable. I wish it had less Zaratsu polish because it's over bling. The clasp is an "acquired taste" I hate and love it at the same time . I am looking for the right band for this watch. Probably without the factory clasp
