What was your first “big boy” purchase? I’d love to know & see some photos! 😁

Quite elated after my first “big boy“ purchase!!!

Definitely was a gulp moment for me while swiping my credit card for this one, even a bigger GULP moment when i heard about the quality issues & movement inaccuracies some Yema owners complained about.

But fortunately this watch has been everything i was hoping for & everything the Yema watch company promised. The watch is accurate, well within the +/- 10 seconds a day, no quality check issues.
Been thoroughly enjoying this watch.

Good to hear. I haven’t experienced any of that potential Yema negatives at a year so far either. Hopefully if continues and you continue on the honeymoon with your new GMT. Well done.

·

I haven't yet made a purchase of a 'serious' watch.

I have a few mechanicals, some automatics, but nothing like a Yema, Longines or a Christopher Ward.

Would definitely like to know what you got once you do make a “serious” watch purchase! 😁

For my 35th birthday I wanted a watch that can stand the test of time so I bought this old Bond watch.

So would the rest of WatchCrunch, I think

That kind of shift might break the space-time continuum. 😉😂

I made the most of the event of picking up the first “big boy”. Marked 10 years of having my own business, so took the wife, we had a great time at the AD then followed it up with a gorgeous lunch to celebrate everything 🎉

The BB58 was my first. Great watch, but I always miss having a date function.

With a milestone like that, you definitely picked up the watch in the right way!
Cheers to many more watches & successful business years.

I feel you, a day/date complication is a top priority for any of my watch purchase. But a gorgeous watch nonetheless!

The first and only watch I have over $1000 (as an arbitrary marker) is my CW Aquitaine I flog on here pretty regularly. I was considering buying a watch for my 40th birthday when the WindUp show was in SF where I live. I got to see a lot of nice watches and the bronze Aquitaine was a bit of a standout. I spent a bit of time deciding and ultimately ordered the first batch as a pre-order. I know bronze isnt for all of you but I am really smitten with it.

Bronze watches do look stellar on people who can pull it off, it’s definitely my cup of tea!

My first watch from a brand with an actual reputation was a 2nd Generation Citizen Skyhawk Blue Angels Titanium -- I happened to locate it for the first time in over ten years yesterday, and I'm going to see if I can rehab it.

Image

It was an 18th birthday gift from my parents, so I don't think that it qualifies as my first "big boy" purchase, even though it was the first watch I wore as an adult (and before I really got into the hobby).

My first "big boy" automatic was actually my JLC Master Control Date, which I received as a law school graduation gift (also from my parents).  I don't know if it counts or not...I took the money out of my own bank account and paid for the watch, and they later wrote me a check to cover the costs -- so I technically did buy it, but only kinda sorta...

Image

I definitely did have one of those "Oh my God...what the hell did I just do?" moments immediately after walking out of the JLC boutique!

So...I guess that means my first and really only "big boy" watch purchase that was in no, way, shape or form a gift (other than to myself), was my Tudor Black Bay GMT, which I bought to celebrate my 35th birthday:

Mr.Jbird,i enjoyed reading through the stories of all the watch purchases. Thank you for sharing, your Tudor BB GMT is a masterpiece, & I’m a total fan boy of JLC,maybe someday I’ll gift one to myself hehe! The JLC really is a clean looking watch.

I had bought an Oris Big Crown Pointer Date before, but it wasn't until I bought my Omega Aqua Terra that I thought to myself "Am I crazy? I just spent how much for something I absolutely do not need?" That was when I realized s**t just got real!

But I've been pretty content after buying that watch. I wear it over 60% of the time. I think my next purchase will be even bigger. Go big or go home I say.
