Let's Give the 5KX Some Love!

The watch in the photo is my 5KX, a watch that doesn't need to be explained why it had so many detractors when it was launched.

I love this watch, I love its looks, I love the finishing for the price, and I even like the "Superman" style No.5.

Also, the bezel action on this specific piece is superb for the price, "Seiko smooth".

And the most important part about the 5KX: This watch has served as an entry into the hobby for many young enthusiasts.

Good job Seiko!

Some people hate it as it was the replacement for the SKX and it's not a "true" diver anymore. You are right, it's an awesome watch.

·

I thought people had moved on? Generally the watch is rightfully liked for what it is.

Coincidentally I am actually wearing mine now. Getting a lot more wrist time since I moved it to a NATO strap.

·

It needs to be explained to me. I like it.

I like it too, people got upset as it didn't have 200m of WR as the SKX did, and "just" a push pull crown. But the 5KX did get some upgrades from the SKX (like a better movement). As I'm no diver, I love the 5KX with its upgrades and "downgrades". It's a very well built watch.

I do not think that this is an unpopular watch. I have both this and the SKX007 and this IS a better watch. The SKX007 IS a better diver. And if I am not mistaken, Marc from Long Island Watch said that it has seen similar if not better commercial success.

If the niche of the niche of the niche of the watch enthusiast was dissapointed with these watches because they have been generally dissapointed with SEIKO upper management and their decisions, that is a completly other matter.

It is just one of those trends or rumors or general concessus from the "Influencers" that spread and make at the same time good and harm (especially regarding influencing watch buying decisions, price inflation, etc)..

Well said. As I have mentioned, I love it, and this watch has served as an entry into the hobby for many young enthusiasts, which is amazing.

**Post editing**

I'm very glad to read good things about the 5KX from you guys! I love mine too! So I've changed my previous post talking about the 5KX as an unpopular watch, to a more positive vibe 😉

Ah come on, millions of desk divers worldwide can't be wrong. 😂But seriously, I consider the SPRDs a great value. Sure, there are some compromises, but they offer a pleasing design with many options in a package that makes sense at that price point. (And you also have modding options, if that matters to you.)

Why did they reduce the water resistance?

·

I don’t have one but I think they look great. Every time I’m in a shop selling Seiko I drop by the shelf with the 5KX. Such a variaty and it seems like new ones are released constantly.

Why did they reduce the water resistance?

I would guess that is to make it clear that Seiko makes no promise regarding ISO-certification, and to distinguish this line from the dive watches that Seiko offers in their Prospex line.

·

I don't have either one, but I'll start by saying that I like them both.

I would assume that people don't like the fact that Seiko went from offering an ISO diver that you could get for $125-$150 all day on Amazon to forcing you to 3x that for an SRP, then slotting what could be perceived as a de-contented model in it's place (at a higher price point).

Beauty.

I have an skx that is my daily but objectively in my opinion it's a pretty bad watch.

I think they made some big improvements with the 5 line and I think most of the initial hate about the watch was peoe having a hard time with change.

Wear it in good health

I quite like them to be honest. I like the funky direction they taking with these. Lots of younger crowd getting into watches again. If you zoom in you can see the textured moon surface dial
