The longer you own something the harder it is to let go?

Now this doesn’t matter if it’s cars, coins, comics, sports memorabilia or watches if you have own it for more than a couple years it makes it harder to let go. I hardly sell anything if at all so I was surprised that someone I know tells me a few weeks ago about someone they know who were interested in buying a few watches I had. At first I was more in shock because I usually don’t buy to sell and two this person was willing to pay more. Which we all know is how business usually goes we never want to buy then sell for less we want to make a profit.

But do you think this is true?

Yes.

It depends on the item. I have lots of old stuff that I’ve lost interest in over the years still hanging around that I’d gladly get rid of. Other things I wouldn’t want to part with.

If I didn't have to go through the hassle of dealing with people, I'd sell pretty much anything I own. I don't really get attached to many "things".

I've got loads of stuff to sell, including maybe a few watches. And with me it's just being lazy not getting rid. As for monetary value, it's not being used, I've had my fun with it so stuff languishing around is dead money so even if I don't get what I would like for it, something is better than nothing (and I can put the cash towards something I'd like).

Absolutely. Sunk cost and all that. I never understood people who will only sell things at a certain price. What happens when you can't find anyone who is willing to pay your price? The money you spent on the thing won't come back ever. Just let it go.

That said, I've had a couple of watches I'd like to sell but can't get a decent price so I gave those watches away instead.

I buy and sell a lot of the collectibles. I only keep what I think is the coolest of the cool. I've already sold some of the watches I purchased last year at this time. If a watch isn't getting wrist time or I just end up not liking one. I sell it!

But then there's the watch's that just seem to have a Lifeline.

Good example is, my Seiko SSC813 has been on the chopping block since I got the SSC911. They're actually quite different but the 911 just steals the wrist time from the 813. But I haven't been able to bring myself to sell it.

And that's kind of how I build any collection. trickledown, sifting, narrowing my focus until I only have what I truly like and or use.
