Have you ever really looked at your current collection and asked yourself these questions?

I sometimes can’t ever seem to be happy or satisfied with my collection. No matter how many watches I buy or try selling to replace one that joy and happiness goes away faster than it comes. So this got me thinking about the following questions please feel free to chime in.

1) Is this watch worth the cost?

2) Will I wear it more than once?

3) Does this watch really work for me?

4) How do I know I’ll wear it a week or a month from now?

5) Do I really need this watch?

6) Now that I have the watch what’s next?

7) I know have my grail/dream watch should I stop buying/collecting?

Now I know that’s a lot to answer but does anyone here sometimes think we over do it with this hobby?

1) No watch is worth the cost. It’s really how you value it.

2) Yes, unless my wife catches me emptying out bank account for a watch. Then it’ll be the first and last time I wear it.

3) It had better work.

4) Refer to #2

5) You have 2 wrists, no one needs that many watches.

6) Celebrate with a mountain of blow.

7) No, like Pokémon, you have to catch them all.

Overdo it, I think most of us have the willpower of a Green Lantern. IYKYK.

I don't even go that far but I definitely try to make sure that I'm not buying irrationally, solely to get some fleeting dopamine hit. As with other things, the main daydream killer is to remember how many items I already have that don't see much use and ask why I think this would be any different. The answer is almost honestly that it would not be any different at all.

Sounds like your joy is coming from the dopamine hit of researching and/or chasing and/or purchasing a watch. Owning it, and using it, seems secondary. That's just my take, based on what you say, but if you recognise that could be what's underpinning your watch collecting, it might be useful to talk to someone about it and get on top of it. Otherwise you may find yourself repeating a cycle that isn't good for you.
