My Grail Rolex Watch Achieved

So I walked into a Rolex AD and started talking to a salesman. We were discussing horology in general along with our favorite brands, watches & the calibers behind them when I notice a now discontinued Everose Daytona on OysterFlex with sundust dial in the Exhibition Case and asked what they're doing to them once the new models arrive.

The gentleman says:

"Unfortunately sir those models have been assigned to a customer once Rolex releases the warranty cards to us.”

“ I do, however have something you might be interested in the back….” he proceeds to the back room to grab a Rolex box and pulls out a used Everose 116515LN Complete set with box and papers- including both hang tags and even the bezel protector. And the price was unbeatable. Literally thousands under market value. How could I pass up this opportunity? The interesting thing about all this is the fact that this Daytona was never meant to be sold locally at this particular AD. Perhaps they didn’t want to explain to newbie’s that most used Professional series Rolex’s trade OVER MSRP/RRP? The only reason the watch was even at the store when I walked in was because the inventory department was running behind and hadn’t shipped this watch out yet. I had no idea that an AD would even do that on such a popular watch. You’d think they’d want to maximize their revenue streams. But for a diehard collector like myself, this was the perfect opportunity to snag a lightly used Daytona below market price. I could not be happier with this newest acquisition! 🥂

Perfect timing!! Congrats and enjoy your beautiful Daytona in good health. Might I suggest buying a lotto ticket today as well? 🤙😂❤️🤙

Great get!!!

·

Ohhhh!!! 🍻🥳

·

Congrats👍 Beautiful watch. If you expose yourself to opportunities good things will eventually happen.

·

Nice catch! Looking at watch charts it trades far above retail. Glad watch went to a collector not a flipper.

Hopefully in the future we will return to a world where this becomes more common place.

Oh, and most importantly, great looking watch!

·

Wow right place right time! Congrats 🥳

Congratulations Paul, it is an amazing feeling when they pull that watch out. I am hearing from more folks about being able to get amazing watches if they go with precious metal. The Daytona is a classic and you should feel great about being able to get one at the AD. Congrats and wear with pride sir.

Sounds like you lucked out there. Congratulations! Enjoy!

·

Congratulations! This is an amazing story! Jelly...

·

So you paid over retail at an official AD?

Congrats! Hoping to own a Daytona and buy it from an AD one of these days if I ever get lucky like you. It's on my 5 year plan... L😆L!

Very lucky, enjoy it 🤞

Glad you could bag a highly sought after model at an acceptable price.

Is this the way the picture is shot, or is this Daytona really wearing large on your wrist ?

I do have small wrists. Itty bitty wrist committee. But could also be the way the picture was taken. The lug the lug is like 46 something millimeters so it sits well within my wrists bone structure. But I’m also waiting for a different sized OysterFlex strap so that it’ll fit me a tad better without having to extend the 5 mm glide lock extension. So, what you’re seeing in the picture is the OysterFlex being a tad bit large because I have the glide lock extended.

Oh, it’s going to be worn all the time into the foreseeable future. It just kicked all my other watches to the curb. 🤫

Yes. It wasn’t an unworn example. It was traded in by another client. But far less than true secondary market value. It almost would have been financially irresponsible of me to not buy the watch.

I’m legitimately glad for you. At the same time, I can’t get excited about a Rolex AD selling used Rolexes at over retail. My local AD will say no on selling used Rolexes. Then you have to take the mall escalator to the first floor, where a different store run by the same parent company has a counter selling used Rolex for over retail. I’m not excited about that, either.

If I walked into the Omega AD, asked about a Silver Snoopy, and they brought a used one out from the safe to offer me at over retail because they liked me, I’d feel similarly.

A man enters a shop…

„Hello! I would like to buy this item, please.“

„I am so sorry, mister. I can’t sell you a new one for the regular price 🙁 but I can sell you this slightly used one for much more 🥳

„Wow! I can’t believe my luck! Of course I take it! I am so grateful that you present me with this gracious opportunity!“

I can understand where you’re coming from. But you also don’t know the price I paid-and it was exceedingly good. I checked the secondary market dealer chats and can confirm I got a ridiculously good deal. Couldn’t even find it listed online for less than what I paid. I truly understand the frustration most all us watch enthusiasts go through when trying to acquire these pieces. My stance up until yesterday was to never buy a Rolex above retail off from either the secondary market or my AD because I am very patient and willing to wait for the watch that I desire in new condition. But that was always predicated on the extremely high secondary market prices on Professional series Rolex models such as the GMT Sprite, Meteorite Pepsi, or Daytonas. The craziest part for me was that my AD wasn’t even gonna try and sell this watch locally. They were just gonna send it to another watch dealer and let them sell it. Instead they let me buy it at that same price. If you also consider the standard wait list time for this particular model, inflation would have cost me more money than I paid after waiting all those years for “The Call” Cheers though mate. Have a fantastic weekend! 🥂

I could not believe it was happening to me. I’m probably still in a little bit of shock if I’m honest with myself.
