Who's Helly Hansen and why is Seiko collaborating with them?

So...this just came up on my Instagram feed. Who's Hally Hansen and just how many people had worn the Willard in important/significant things?

Hally Hansen is a maker of outdoor clothing. Were it me, I would have re-issued a Seiko regatta since HH is well known for its Sailing gear! (Used in the Volvo Ocean Race, America's Cup etc.)

Do you have a link?

Ah...so that's what they are. Thanks!

Only the seikojapan site though. So yeah, anybody know what Seiko's saying?

Looks like seiko are using their save the ocean motto, and tieing it up with helly hanson who make clothing that's used a lot on yachts and yacht racing, now I can't translate Japanese but on one of the pictures there looks to be a plastic gathering device that's towed by a lot of the racing yachts to collect waste plastic (green credentials), so maybe seikos sponsoring this device. Strange choice of colour though most yachting apparel is brightly coloured for safety reasons, and most watches worn for that sport have dual timers and again brightly coloured for legibility. Another Ltd edition seiko that will have some frothing at the mouth over, and be double the price of the normal model,oh well whatever floats your boat.

They are also big in skiing and mountaineering clothing.

Ah...skiing. I have heard of this....ski thing. People strap plywoods on their feet and hurl themselves off mountains yes?

And they do a helicopter with the wood on their feet so that they can land safely?

LOL, precisely!

Helly Hansen is also massive in commercial marine clothing. I grew up knowing H/H well before I'd heard of The North Face, Patagonia, or Arc'teryx, as a commercial fisherman's son.

·

As a ski photographer Helly Hanson was one of my sponsors, they were always amazing to work with but I'm not a fan of the color scheme. I mean it matches my Black Helly Hanson rain gear but jeez how about a little Flavor.

·

Growing up in Seattle, the affluent kids were always dressed in HH/North Face.

·

They are huge in Norway. But it's Norwegian company. They make lots of rain and winter clothes.

Hally Hansen has been around 140 odd years (didn't know that)... Blah blah blah, look the jacket is black so we made a black watch blah blah blah... the hood is this weird yellow colour so we made the second hand the same weird yellow blah blah blah... we have "save the ocean" with #prospex, Hally Hansen has "project H2O"...blah blah blah

It's pretty heavy on the marketing speak to be sure, not sure a black #willard with a yellow second hand is worth JPY¥165000 though.

Not necessarily, any New Zealand sailor is going to be wearing black for instance. However the marketing page is confusing, it also talks about Naomi Uemura on a 12,000km dog sled trip in the Arctic Circle from 1974 to 1976 while wearing the original #willard etc. etc.
