“The Wobble” Valjoux 7750 - Showing mine, let's see yours!

Let’s see your watches with the 7750 movement or 77xx derivatives, and hear your thoughts about them.

After everything that has come and gone in my long history with watches, there is one movement that has consistently been there in the background silently performing.  The venerable and reliable Valjoux 7750.  You all know it, the one with the famous rotor kickback or wobble.  The one that was designed with cost effectiveness in mind from the start, and the one that is easy to get serviced, but isn’t a service whore.

Descended from the Venus Caliber 188, the Valjoux 77xx series was born right after the first automatic chronographs from Zenith, Heuer/Breitling/Hamiton/Buren, & Seiko were introduced in the late 1960’s early 1970’s.  Unfortunately, the timing wasn’t great and due to the quartz crisis, and the movement ended production around the mid 1970's.  The machining tools for the movement were ordered to be scrapped, but they weren't scrapped, and in the mid 1980's production resumed (with updates) under Swatch Group leadership.

And the rest is history…..

Please share your watches with this 77xx series movements.  The watches from that early period are less plentiful today than the watches produced in that later or current period after 1985.  A watch with an early 7750 something that I am going to target for future acquisition, another thing on that pretty short list.

As you can see from the lengthy post (for me anyway) I love the 7750. Your comments good and bad are welcome here, I've heard just about every complaint before; however, it falls on deaf ears with me. My experiences with this movement are all positive; however, others on the thread may want to hear the complaints.

Not my photos, but I have three. I largely stopped looking at 7750 based watches, but for certain have not ruled it out for future acquisitions.

Impressive chrono collection!

Fantastic collection of chronos! Congrats!

Ah yes, the venerable Valjoux 7750. That and the classic manual Valjoux 7733/7734.

I'll stick with the 7750 since there are enough of them in the collection...

Here are these from "A - E"

Im In the market for a 39mm IWC 3706, but curious, what are the common complaints (besides the wobble) of the 7750?

Love this watch so much. I wasn’t really put off by the wobble, it is kind of endearing, but was definitely shocked by the noise. I ended up googling it to make sure I wasn’t alone in this experience and had a broken movement.

·

Imposter here. I’ve got precisely zero chronos. I’m the inverse, or bizarro version of @ChronoGuy

Heard good stuff about the 7750 over the years.

Didn’t know that when these one way winders spin crazy it’s called a ‘wobble’. Learned something new. My Miyota 8 series movement does the same

I have a Orfina Porsche Design, a Breitling Chronomat and a Sinn Ti/UTC/Ra. All still in good shape.

Love that Sinn! The Orfina is a real period classic!

Love that Sinn! The Orfina is a real period classic!

I remember the sales guy in Singapore telling me about the see through back of the Sinn. He told me “Sinn shows off the Valjoux 7750 rather than being ashamed of using an outsourced movement!”.

I recently learned that the Porsche Design Orfina might be the world’s first black watch.

Love listening to it move 👍

The 7751 variant, a beautiful thing!

Cheers buddy. 👍🏼

Hi John. Here is my Mido Multifort 8810. I don't wear it much. Very heavy, very thick. But, I have a 7750 in my collection.😅

Very nice! From the finishing it looks like it's the top version 7750.

Found this community and post because I googled if the sound and feel of this movement was “normal” so glad I did!

Mine is a Breitling Chronomat Chronograph A13352 that I recently received as a 40th birthday gift from my wife and family. Love it!!

Welcome! Love that gorgeous Breitling, your wife has good taste!

The kickback or wobble on these movements is normal and I find the wobble to be part of the charm. Wear it in the best of health.

Thanks so much! Luckily, my wife had a lot of help from my brother-in-law, who really knows watches lol
