The "Strapmonster" concept - I don't get it.....Help!

Lord knows I've tried, but I haven't gotten into the concept of the "Strapmonster." For the most part, my watches just gravitate toward the strap/bracelet pairing that I like the most and that is the end of it.

Let's see your best "Strapmosters" and possibly motivate me to try again with something in my collection.....

Well I'm the same really. I might change a bit when I first get a new watch to see what suits it best. Then once I have decided it will probably stay on that bracelet / strap for ever.

I do have a couple of pieces that change from time to time but only generally different colours of NATO.

Having said that I've got a hell of alot of straps now that I have just checked my watch box and desk😆

·

Bookmarked, because I'm kind of on your side of this one. I have a watch or two that definitely haven't found their forever straps just yet, and I have one purchased specifically to go with one strap during the Christmas season and another strap for the rest of the year, but beyond that the concept sounds exhausting to me!

·

I guess it is a way for some collectors, to give their watches a new different life... Or a longer life... But I absolutely prefer fine metallic bracelets and I am just now in a process of change the strap on every watch I actually use sometime, to fine bracelets...

Half of these HAD letherstraps (and the digital Casio a hopeless silicon strap) before...

Image

And yes... I did just change to a bracelet, for the skeleton in the middle and I am waiting on a golden bracelet (as the one in the right bottom corner) for the other skeleton with black bezel...

·

The reason you don't get the concept of a "strap monster" is because this is what I imagine your watch collection to look like...

Image

When you have that many watches, you don't need to change out the straps for "variety." Your watches provide all the variety you need!

·

I have a few that I try different straps / bands on not because the watch is a strap monster but because I'm bored.

Strap monsters for me are usually black or white uncomplicated dials. These dial colours go with any strap colour and the lack of complications means you can dress the watch up with leather or down with Natos. There are exceptions I can’t model out, like an Omega Speedmaster goes with anything despite being busy and my Seiko Arita porcelain would not look good on a Nato strap. My strap monster is the Sinn 556i MOP - the base is black but the iridescence means a lot of strap colours match. (Some of these photos aren’t mine)

This is a strap monsta! That mesh looks pretty damm good on it 😀

SPB143 is one of my strap monsters. Have it on a camo ripstop in WRUW today but I’ve previously repped in on the bracelet, suede, and leather. I agree with @K.evin that they’re usually simple dials of grey, black, or white but I know @SurferJohn has many in the vault that will suffice as well.

Thanks, John @valleykilmers! I am going to select one watch from the valut and strapmoster it to death. I have an unbelieveable collection of straps, braclets, & parts to pull from so I just need to do it.

My point in posting this thread is to gain some insight/inspiration to try it. I may have a vault full of stuff, but I am open to try stuff- @HotWatchChick69

I just read on another thread you are the mesh granddaddy. Do you have any recommendations for a Milanese bracelet? I have no experience wearing one but they look great. I was looking on WUS and they recommended a $760 Omega OEM. Looking for something cheaper that won’t tug at my arm hairs

WatchGecko and Forstner have good Milanese bracelets with universal straight bars.

That Sinn 556 really does look great with almost any strap you throw at it.

This is one of my watches that I regularly chance straps on. Usually green, white, black or this one. Allways leather.

The strap is that star on this one, simple dial.

The dial alone will go with any outfit. Then you choose a strap to go with your outfit.

I totally get what you are doing and it works!

·
OxandBuck

If a watch is a strap monster it doesn't mean you have to keep changing up the strap but rather you have more options to what will work on the watch to find a combo you really like.

Voilà!

Some straps came by the mail few days ago. Haven't tried any yet but I'll have a fun matching time coming soon.

Any suggestions?

I think those 3 seikos could fit alot of different ones.

I'll keep the blue rubber for my orient mako 2 that haven't had many time on the wrist lately.

Love it!

It only applies to 20mm watch lugs and the variety is huge in that size... 18mm and 21mm need love too

Just a way to spice things up!

On that bracelet, yes pleeze!

·

Agreed, I didn't want to imply bracelets were off the table. I keep my speedy on the bracelet all the time, despite the fact that I have an original leather strap for it as well.

·

I don’t have any pictures but I am working on a new YouTube video that should be out soon. I put a new strap on my Longines Hydroconquest it’s of one the artem sailcloths and it totally changed the look and feel of the watch and it’s definitely a big upgrade. The change is pretty dramatic. I also put a shark mesh on my seamaster
