Watch watching in Hong Kong

Ever since I fell down this rabbit hole, one of the most fun things is to look at watches in different countries that I visit. A quick trip to Hong Kong for business means I can spend the down time running all around town looking at the watches that are on display. Very interesting to say the least.

depends of what you might be looking for, if the expensive grey market current stuff, they are everywhere. If you are looking for old strange stuff, maybe check out Shumsuipo They have a street that people sell old junk. That is where I saw some old watches

Ah ok, thanks! Like most, I daydream of stumbling upon the $$$$$ watch in some backwoods bargain bin, making headline news - then throwing you guys a party with some of my profit! I know, I know…HK is anything but “backwoods” 🤙😂

You might find that perhaps in a backstreet in Jakarta. Hong Kong they know the value of what they have which is why I did not buy anything. There was not even any broken down watches I could buy to fix. Good to see the stuff in person though.

There are many watch shops--the HK population is very, very knowledgeable about watches--but a great place to start is Champagne Court in Tsim Sha Tsui (20 Kimberley Road). They have some fantastic window displays with a great variety of luxury secondhand watches. It's catnip for watch enthusiasts.

Champagne Court also has some really excellent vintage camera shops, if you're into film photography.

That’s awesome man! I would love the opportunity to check these out someday

I personally think that Seiko, and some other Japanese products like cameras, owe heavily to Hong Kong for showcasing them to international shoppers since the 1960’s. In any case Hong Kong was definitely the watch retail capital of the world, at least till the 1980’s.
