Instructions are for losers. Barton G Shock Elite Silicone straps

I am a changed man after discovering the joys of swapping watch straps. Yes, I was slightly over confident thinking a change in strap would be enough to bring my father-in-law back to the watch wearing fold, but every new journey has its bumps and wrong turns, right? I am saving money by changing my shopping motto to “buy straps, not watches” - that’s right: I actually save money by buying straps (not watches). 😋

In my search for the elusive 21mm straps I came across Barton (probably known by everyone - but I’m new) and they actually have a good selection of this lesser made size. Result! While searching through the plethora of bands I came across the G-Shock specific section. Not the bands I came for but worth a look. Lo and behold they had a DW5600 as the display watch- the very model I was gifted a month ago.

When destiny knocks- you open the door!

Barton G Shock straps

Stunned, as if it was a miracle that they used my watch, I had to pick up a set. Think of the odds that they used my very model (yes, I understand that it’s one of the most ubiquitous watches in the world - but still).

My Elite Silicone straps arrived today without any instructions,

but instructions are for losers anyway.

An hour later, with only a few lacerations, to both my left hand and the watch lugs, I got those conversion parts on.

It wasn’t until I took the photo to post here, in this proud forum that I noticed I had installed them upside down.

After shouting a long stream of the most exquisite profanities, I tried again. And again. And again.

If you look at the photo above, you might think I have labeled them the wrong way round, but that’s the type of thinking that will lead you to lacerations and profanity.

You install them pointing upwards and then there is just enough give to FLIP them downwards to snap them into position!

Success! Insert smug smile here.

The mental gymnastics that I had to do to get to that point…I needed to lie down.

Out of morbid curiosity, I scoured the Barton website for instructions that I absolutely didn’t need. Couldn’t find them but I found out that they do sell the G-Shock adapters separately and the reviews were telling:

And many more reviews like this.

So it wasn’t just me being a noob!

I got those bastards on without removing the caseback,

completely without instructions too.

Juice was so worth the squeeze! 😁

Do silicone straps end up splitting or breaking?

BTW… From this post one can easily deduce that you are DEFINITELY a teacher. 😂 I too am a teacher. I guess that’s why watches are a hobby for minds like ours.

·

Great to meet another fellow teacher! 🤜🏼🤛🏼

Only got the silicone straps today but they feel like good quality and I have silicone utensils in the kitchen that have taken an absolute beating (and heating) over many years - they don’t fall apart but don’t take well to 🔪 knives - I carelessly sliced a small chunk off once. 😅

I actually went with some adapters from jays and kays because of bartons reviews, but maybe it's a lot of user error. I got the adapters on a 6900 with a really nice nato strap, but that watch needs a rubber strap imo. Quite a bit of a process putting those on too!

Great post, well done on the change. I love Casio but dislike Casio straps (was going to say hate). A DW5600 on my wish list so saved this post. I got a Barton for the first time recently for a Casio Duro, and oh my, made it 100% more wearable (other strap brands available). @tonysutherland having trouble also, I hope he sees this post.

I know that resin straps can decay and fracture over time, but from my experience silicone straps do not - it's pretty much the same material used in smartphone coverings. They are very comfortable, although some can be absolute dust magnets

I very briefly had a Barton silicone strap. Picked up every dust molecule within a square mile. By the end of one day it was looking like a used Swiffer sheet.

No thank you.

The caseback comment made me chuckle though......🤪

Instructions are always nice, and it has been a minute (read YEARS) since I changed mine over but can't figure out why you would remove the caseback?

Pretty sure Mr. Anonymous took the caseback off due to “loser” error. 😂It’s also why he remains anonymous…😋

Jays and Kays, thank you for the pointer! But I can confirm that the Barton adapters do fit and it was easy peasy to wing it with no guide!😜

A definite upgrade in comfort and looks (imo) for sure! To be honest, Barton’s web photos were my first time even seeing a Casio with different straps. It broke a mental wall. ☺️

I can confirm after my first day on the wrist, that there is some build up - the underside was pretty nasty. Didn’t realise my wrist was that dirty!

Bravo! I don’t have enough creativity to even think to try this!

Changing out bracelets and/or straps really adds more fun to the hobby. Here's a post I just made on it:

Do silicone straps end up splitting or breaking?

They will stretch over time
