BMW 335 Review

Green dial is all the hype you say? I'll bet you'd be the only one with this green watch, the BMW 335 (Yes, I'm talking about a watch here).

Sizing and wearability:

Incredibly elegant and fun watch measuring around 46mm in lug to lug, 26mm in width, and 12mm in thickness. This watch wear like a 36mm round watch. The lug width is 20mm which allows for endless options. The back is flat, but the lugs are down turned allowing the strap to hug and drape around the wrist

Movement(s):

Dual or should I say Twin ETA 2678, which should be easy to service by most watch makers. 25 jewels each. Automatic and beats away at 4Hz. Power reserve of about 38 hours. Comes with quickset, hacking, and hand winding. 3 bar of water resistance and mineral crystal. The date change is surprisingly instantaneous and the second dial offers dual time zone.

Case and Dial:

Clean dial with minimal text. Unique lime green color that adds some pop. Curved case allows the dials to show some depth relative to each other. This case design is a homage to the Cartier Tank Americaine or Cintree. In fact there was a Tank Cintree very similar to this with dual ETA 2412.

The 1938 BMW 335 inspiration:

Initially I thought this watch design was suppose to represent the BMW kidney grill but it turns out its actually based on a 1938 vintage BMW 335's instrument panel. This model was the predecessor of today's 7 series, a luxury tourer (BMW's first luxury car) for the expanding autobahn. It was BMW's largest car at the time and was able to reach 150km/h in 1938. Production ended in 1941, likely due to war and only 415 examples were ever made.

Overall:

This is a pretty versatile watch. The shape allows it to wear like a elegant dress watch at times and the design if fun enough to dress it down as well.  The winding is definitely not as refined or easy. It's definitely a conversation starter and you probably wont see anyone else wearing one in public.

I'll give them credit for a surprisingly well integrated angled date window, not that I can read the thing at approximately 50% magnification. Ditto for the time zone: so neat and tidy that you can barely tell it's there.

Yea... it's definitely not a practical watch.
