Opinions of Swatch?

Hey there friends!

After yesterday's purchases I've found myself scrolling aimlessly through Swatches amazon page. I don't do that with other brands. They're different somehow. I know my opinion but I want to know yours. What are your opinions towards Swatch? Are they pos happy meal toys? Fun why the hell not buys? Do you hate them? Love them? Not give a toss one way or the other? Please do be honest I want your opinion I promise I won't get offended. Cheers

Love Swatch. Have several. Would have more but they closed my local (ATL) boutique many many moons ago. Bummer.

·

I love and enjoy them for what they are, fun watches. So I collect some, mainly the mechanical ones. 🥳

·

They are most definitely a fun watch to wear perhaps for a summer day out.  I bought my first on in high school, when they first came out....yeah I am that old.  I still have it somewhere, but I have other everyday watches to wear.   I do kinda feel like it is more for a younger crowd.  But then again whatever speaks to you.

·

I love them! But the loud ticking can get annoying and I noticed that if the movement is in a steel case and not plastic or bio ceramic you can hardly hear the ticking…so I try to opt for steel cases

·

i just have one experience with swatch which is skull diaphane series i think. its a gift from my gf back in my college day. to be honest i dont really like it from build quality perspective, case made from plastic, and bracelet got a big gap and loosen pin. it didnt get my curiosity to grow through wristwatch at that time. but it is different when i first bought mechanical watch which is my orient kamasu. but it is just my opinion, probably the other model is built more good than this one i have. just enjoy what you like

I don't own one, but I think they are really cool and I know they have a huge collectors club.  Also, some of them are so collectible, the prices are really up there.  I think they are a really fun watch that is also like a Pop art piece.  I may have to buy one and paint the word Timex on it.  Check these videos out.

I have one swatch, and it's the loudest damn thing I've ever heard.  Like too loud to sleep with it on the nightstand loud.  I can't imagine why or how it could be that loud.

·

My first watch was a pop-swatch (basically think a circular case with a plastic thing around it that snapped on, allowing you to literally wear the watch on your long sleeve without a strap which then became an actual swatch my gf bought me when i turned 20.

Looking back, and looking at them now all I see with swatch is a gateway drug.  a great first watch for someone young but nothing to be taken seriously today.

·

Here are mine.  Almost vintage.

And yes, the MoonSwatch is a plastic POS “for it’s asking price“, imho. There are too many other great watches out there for that kind of money.

Terrific watches, with the exception of one particularly model I think they are fun and good value and I like the bold designs and colours.

I know right!! Weird they own about everything but yet they cannot make their watch better with less ticking 🤯

·

Have an older stainless Irony chrono that I really dig, it's a regular in the rotation.

·

cheap swiss toys that are usually too cluttered to read the time while the plastic straps rot in a few years. Crayo does better ones.

·

When i was young and definately not into watches, i had 2-3 Swatchs.

One Swatch Beat, that still works. And 2 Plastic Ones.

Also, when i was a teenager (around 1997?), my granddad wanted a new watch, and i've suggested a Swatch Irony.

He still wears it, and it works flawless. 😀

It's weird. I don't notice the tick, and even I by some miracle I do, it doesn't bother me. I can sleep fine with it right next to me. Byproduct of growing up with a clock hanging right above my bed perhaps?

As an aside, the New York Horological Society lecture tonight is about the quartz crisis, and they say in so many words, "Note from the lecturer: Wear a Swatch if you have one!" There's still time to register, in person or online, if your interested.

Thank you for that! I've just signed up. Starts at midnight BST and will definitely be wearing my swatch

·

To be honest never been bothered with them, even when they first came out back in the day(and there was big hype and queues), mind you the swoonmatch is genius absolute genius.

My wife pretty much only likes Swatch and Tissot, so thats what I've gotten her in the past.

I have a watch friend (who I tried to convince to join WC) who is a serial Swatch hoarder. He has literally 90+ of them, and he does not wear most of them. The mere fact he has them is comforting? We give him a hard time, and he admits he has a problem, but really dont we all?!

Some do consider it disposable fashion, but I would counter this with Swatch since alot of what they make is meant to be collectible. In my mind a Swatch is no more disposable than a base Timex or Casio, its really a matter of how we treat things as consumers. We've all bought cheap watches Im sure but some have had theirs for a very long time.

Swatches are loud but no slouches with reliability like any other well known quartz. They are plastic and fade in little time, but again the Swatch fanatics I know keep them regardless. They dont claim to be the best, their name stems from "second watch" so giving them a hard time for being inferior to others is a moot point I think. They know they are only for looks and only for fun.

Now price wise, they could stand to be less expensive, but someones gotta pay to print "Swiss Made" on a dial.

·

I'm very fond of Swatch watches and have worn them since they were first produced. I still have two that are at least 20 years old. Both of them keep excellent time. This year I bought two Swatch Irony watches, one with a red face and red strap and the other similar but in blue. They are incredibly thin and weigh next to nothing.

·

Happened to be near a Swatch boutique a few months ago and picked up a Jupiter MoonSwatch. It’s… alright? I have no real attachment to Swatch as a brand but they make some fun little watches. Not something I would pursue enough to get a nicer mechanical piece from them though.

I own one Swatch, this Irony I bought 1996 or 1997. It’s been reliable and accurate despite never being serviced.

If there was a dictionary definition of the term "shameless self promotion" a picture of this watch would feature as an example. I count the word "swatch" 8 times just in this pic and I assume there are more not visible here.

Ah, one of the more subtle variations, I could see myself wearing that.
