Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
In 2017 the crown on my daily driver Citizen quartz came out of the case while adjusting for DST. A week later my Bulova got a nasty scratch on the crystal. So to the Internet I went to find a new watch. Discovered something called “sapphire” crystals and “automatic” watches. Fell down the rabbit hole and haven’t found my way out yet.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Don’t recall. The first automatic watch I ever owned though was the Phoibos Submariner homage.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
No, not particularly.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Get a Casio F91-W or the A168. Why? Because they’ll help keep you grounded as you get deeper and deeper into watches. The truth is that for the vast majority of folks either watch will be the only watch they ever really need. Anything past that is a want. Nothing wrong with wanting a nicer, more expensive watch…or watches. But understanding the distinction between need and want is key to keeping things in perspective. Plus they are inexpensive…and they’re icons!
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?

Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Tough question since there are many. But if painted into a corner, I’ll go with the A. Lange & Söhne Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase in 18kt pink gold. Why? Just look at it, you’ll see!
