Citizen World Time AT Review

This watch has been with me for some time, about 15 years. It’s out of production, but Citizen does have similar ones in their catalogue.

This watch is a beast, heavier (145g) than most of the others I have and large - 43mm and 23mm lug width. It saw a lot of use when I did a good deal of world travel. It easily changes time zones on the fly and is a ‘set and forget’ watch, as it has quartz EcoDrive, perpetual calendar and AT - radio controlled time correction daily.  It also hacks very easily if you do need to reset the time in an area outside the radio controlled zones. Lume is good and has held up well. It has a Black finished stainless steel case and band, quality clasp, and a sapphire crystal. It’s 200m water resistant. There’s been no scratches and no case marks, but the finish has worn a bit on the bracelet. I find that is a nice patina, but may not be to everyone’s liking.

This one of the ‘better’ Citizen watches I have, lots of functions, very accurate. However, it has gets much less wrist time than before. I once liked the dial, and all the cities on the bezel, but now find them busy. I also now prefer a dual time zone or GMT watch better than a city timer. The weight is more than most of my newer watches (I’ve become a fan of titanium). Overall the black is attractive, but not my style any more. Tastes change over time!

We have a good range of watches on this forum. I’ve got a range in my collection from low end fashion watches to high quality automatics and spring drives. My Citizen watches in general and this one in particular represent a stage in my life and I’ve kept the ones that bring me good memories, even if they aren’t daily wears. The EcoDrives are easy to keep as they basically take care of themselves.

So, if you want a robust watch with a lot of features that’s very accurate and like the world time and perpetual calendar functions, you’ll like these watches. I find the EcoDrives an interesting and useful subset of quartz watches. I know they won’t last forever, but so far I’ve seen no failures. There’s been a lot of discussion on WC about a good 2-3 watch collection. I’d recommend this for a daily beater in a set up like that.
