Korean Air Dual time - Tribute or gateway watch to a JLC Reverso?

Do any of you try out an inexpensive watch with similar attributes to a luxury brand to make sure you like before you buy?

The watch I’m wearing today is one example for me. There has been some discussion of the hits from WoW this year. The JLC Reverso’s have again caught my eye. I have a large collection of dual time zone watches. I’ve travelled a great deal and now do calls with many colleagues around the world. That led me to liking this complication, now I have quite a collection. One of my older entrants is a Korean Air 30th Anniversary dual time zone quartz. It was made by the otherwise unknown (to me) Golden Tower company, but does proudly announce “made in Korea” on the back. This is a very well made watch, maybe because it was an important anniversary for Korea’s flagship airline. The gold toned case has held up well and resists scratching; the crystal is gently curved; there are two separate tiny movements in it; day/night indicator on the ‘home’ dial and a date window. Most of all, its a very comfortable wear.

My question, is it a JLC tribute? Of course it’s not a Reverso, but it does have very similar dimensions. The current JLC Reverso Duetto is 42.9x25.5mm and 9.2 thick. KA is 44.5x26.5mm and 8.6mm thick; pretty close! I haven’t pulled the KA out too much recently - those movements are really tiny and a challenge to set. However the current JLC discussions got it on my wrist and its look and comfort have led me to look up local JLC dealers. So . . .

Have any of you all used an older inexpensive watch to point you in the direction of a luxury buy?

Any Reverso lovers/buyers out there got advice? This would be a new brand for me.

Thanks!

I didn’t have any experience of any rectangular watches before my Reverso. But I didn’t took a chance. I visited ADs at numerous occasions and tested out different sizes and models. I knew early that I wanted a Duoface.

I can understand that sizewise testing of another rectangular watch make sence but you also have to consider the form. The Reverso has a straight back with slighly curved lugs. Your Korean Air looks more curved. You will find out but I don’t think you will have a problem with a medium sized.

After seeing this vid from Bark&Jack I made my final decision: https://youtu.be/GfxGotedSsc
