My Wife on My Collection...

A lot of people have different views about what makes a "desirable" watch. Whereas most of us probably appreciate specs, wearability, heritage etc. Some would purely choose a watch based on how expensive it looks. I thought I'd try something and ask my wife (who is not interested in watches whatsoever) to try and put my watches in order of cheapest to most expensive. Her picks are on top, the actual order is below. The results are interesting - especially with regards to my CWC G10, which she thought was the cheapest in my collection. I'm not saying expensive-looking watches are NOT desirable, it's just an interesting quirk of this hobby.

She did well. Only the CWC and the two tone Seiko were off by much.

Interesting, my other half isn't touching my watches....sticky fingers!  Looks like your wife was off a little making the vostok one of the top picks!  Then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and cost vs. benefit don't always jive.

Cool collection.

Not that I care what others think, but to the casual person, on any reaction/judge my collection video, Nato = cheap watch, regardless of which watch it’s on. In theory they are not entirely wrong. Even the best Nato likely costs very little to make, so they may see it and associate the whole watch with inexpensive.

This!  This is exactly why I don't worry about what other people think about the watch I'm wearing.  Outside of the watch enthusiast's community - and the criminal element that specializes in nicking watches in certain locales, 99% of the people who even notice you're wearing a watch will have no clue about its brand, heritage, or price.  Excepting Rolex, which everyone thinks is the world's most luxurious/expensive watch brand.

Considering how small the price range (difference between most and least expensive) I think your wife did an excellent job. I think I would have gotten all but the top incorrect as well

Saw pic of collection. Didn't read text. Zoomed in on image and thought "whoah, this dude's got a lot of duplicates". Then read text, felt foolish.

The Seiko 5 showing its class there - punches above its weight every time 😉
