Research, research, then buy a different watch

Recently I bought a new watch after reading all the reviews, watching all the videos, looking at the website. I was sure it was the watch I wanted. Go to the AD to try it on and buy it. I put it on my wrist and it didn't do a lot for me.

So, I saw a different watch there from the same manufacture and asked to try it on and immediately liked it! Only problem was that it was a little out of my budget. I told the sales associate that I did like it but was a little out of my budget. He said give me a few minutes and he went to speak with what I guess was a manager. When he returned he quoted me a hell of a discount. Well, that watch came home with me and I'm very happy with it.

Anyone else put in hours of research on one watch only to buy a different watch once at the AD?

I hope you walked in looking to purchase a Rolex OP and walked out with a Paul Newman Daytona for the same price 🤪

So happy for you that you instantly found the "right" watch and even got a good price!

That's exactly what I am afraid of, as I am looking at this one watch for quite some time now and want to buy it as soon as I achieve the next goal in my career. It's on the desktop of my laptop to keep me focused and I love to look at it, but like in your case never had it on my wrist. Got to hope for the best 😬

Funny thing about more expensive watches, they tend to wow you. Once you’re in the store, a good salesperson will find a way to get some other watches on your wrist. Glad you found something good and got a discount.

The on the wrist experience has both killed my desire for a watch I had been pursuing as well as clinched the deal on a watch that hadn't been under consideration before I tried it on. After 100+ purchases I think I'm finally done buying watches that I've never personally handled.

Personally never buying a watch prior trying it on ( new ones of course, used and vintage online purchase is different ). This process killed my immense "on paper" love for Speedmaster Moon, same happened with some other watches. Until today never happened to me that I found alternative and bought without prior research. Knowing so much about mainstream brands it probably couldn't happen anyway to find a watch that wouldn't speak to me before seing it in flesh but will see what the future brings.

They sounds like a great outcome. Nothing beats seeing a watch on the metal and trying it on.

What were you after and what did you end up with?

On Paper vs On Wrist can be substantially different; sometimes it's disappointing but other times can be quite delightful! Congrats on the watch; have you posted a #wruw yet?

Went in for the Tangente Update 41 and bought the World Timer. (Sorry about the blurry pic of the Update 41).
