Aah but it doesn't count

Hi all. So after my mum and missus have banded together they banned me from purchasing any more watches until my birthday. Thats fine, I can wait. I was in the antiques store, and came across this vintage westclox in perfect working order. I was going to try and haggle a bit because the dial was slightly skewed but the dealers stated price was so good I shook his hand on the spot and 10 minutes later here we are. Have you got a cool clock? Drop it into the comments I'd love to see it. Seriously, what with my dvd collection of old movies, a wristwatch collection, an aversion to wearing anything except Military surplus boots, and now a growing clock collection, is it any wonder my parents nickname for me is the young old man? Now get off o' my lawn!

Well, Let Me Tell You Something, Brother 😎 you need a  cuckoo clock if you want to be reeeeaal man!

·

What sort of strap are you thinking?

·

There is a freestanding pendulum clock that I am delinquent in removing from my parents' house. I don't even know what you call it, it's not a desk or mantle clock, but it's only about two feet tall with obvious feet.

People that repair mechanical clocks seem to be even scarcer than those that service watches in my area. So anyway, not in my possession, have no photos. Sort of a rectangular mission style, dial wound or face wound or whatever it's called.

I used to have a light blue plastic mechanical alarm clock, probably a Westclox. I can't remember what went wrong with it that I junked it, but I'd presumably be more interested and able to salvage it if I had it today.

All the little Hulkamaniacs take say their prayers, take their vitamins and wind their cuckoo clocks!

I'm thinking vintage style crocodile leather really ought to make this pop. It couldn't be more 60s if it was taking a tab of acid with macca whilst jumping into a tie die beetle

I know the style you mean. What are you supposed to do with them? Too short to be a freestanding and too big to go on a desk

I had picked up this funky retro looking clock from RoyaleEnamel on Etsy back in 2020, and have had tons of compliments on it.  It's the only working clock we have in the entire house, but that's about to change as I have a Jefferson Golden Hour Mystery Clock in transit as well.

My Seiko bedside clock and Seiko melody wall clock. My bedside clock glows amber with the alarm off and green with the alarm on and has a gradual wake alarm. Plus it sports Seiko's famous sweep second hand. Then there's my fabulous Seiko wall clock. It opens up every hour to reveal dancing fairies, flashes it led's under placed swarovski crystals, and plays a melody between a selection of 12 different famous classical, baroque and impressionistic pieces on the hour. Long live Seiko!

He‘s from ”the North”. He’s been working in the mines since he could walk.
I, meanwhile, am from the South, so am drinking tea from the safety of my moated castle.

Its a nickname. I introduced her to the family and my parents referred to her as "your missus" because they forgot her name. It stuck as her nickname

"Misses" can be used as a general term for WAGs, but who knows with Popit. He is a 50yr old trapped in a teenagers body.

NOT EVERYTHING NORTH OF SLOUGH IS "THE NORTH"!

@Deeperblue knows what I'm talking about!

I was born up in the proper north east in Durham and half my family are up there. Midlanders are soft southerners to them.

I suppose us Londoners are practically French to you…

·

I forget that I have a flip clock radio that doesn't really get used because the backlight is pathetically dim and needs some work.

Absolutely. And being from the Shire I do not understand your city ways.

Are the Midland's located in the center of England?

There's an English joke that Londoners can't understand that England is North, Midlands, and South. Londoners think anything above the capital is the North, and because the North is really industrial, northerners are all dirty and blue collared. It's all in fun though and now your up to speed

I completely forgot about that video! It's true though when you scale it down. My grandparents live in a small village where everyone knows each other, etc. Compare that to Nottingham, you say good morning, your looked at like your  a nutter

I looked at map of the UK. It appears you live just above the heel of the boot?

Think you’ve been looking at a map of Italy, my friend…

The UK looks a little like a boot too, though not as pronounced as Italy. The heel is on the East. Yes, I did do well in my Geography classes. 😉

Ooh I have a couple of these. A bit overpriced for the quality, but I just love the designs.

Those look great! I personally thought that mine was fine for the price, given the funky design. It keeps great time, and I like the smooth sweep of the seconds hand.  When I bought it I thought that I'd be the only one who appreciated it, but I've received lots of compliments on it, so it must have a broader appeal than I originally thought.

I’ve this old American mantle clock. It’s in dire need of a service, I expect the clock equivalent of the click sheared off.  One day I was in the middle of winding the clock, when all of a sudden the mainspring‘s energy was released all at once, and the brass winding key gave my thumb a jolly good thrashing.
