This or that?

Looking to add a new watch to the collection and considering one with more of an "aviation" look. I'm a fan of Longines as a brand and I already have a Dolce Vita. I have never explored Oris as a brand but they seem interesting to say the least. Both are 40mm, I believe the spirit has a longer power reserve and better water resistance. (the most water itll likely see is from hand washing)

I’ve had both and sold both, the Longines is finished better than a lot of my watches that are 3x the price. And if your shooting for the bronze make sure you like patina, because mine would look like the end of an outdoor house after one where. That all being said I’m considering to bring another Oris Big crown pointer date just in stainless.

I've toyed with the Bronze Oris often, so I voted for that . . . esp. the steel one with the Bronze bezel, but I think I'm opting for the upgraded in-house caliber the next time I go Oris. I really don't think I could commit to a watch that also had a bronze bracelet . . . that's a lot of bronze (would have to go on a strap). I do like the idea of bronze though and Oris is one of the few that offers something that isn't a diver.

Voted for the Longines - super watch and I am not a bronze fan. That being said Oris is just so interesting for me at the moment, if (when???) the Diver Sixty Five shrinks back to 38mm I don't feel I would be able to resist, so far it seems that size is reserved for the limited editions only.

Crazy that 2mm is keeping me from a purchase I suppose, I may have to succumb to the temptation...

At a higher price point, the Wings of Hope LE Big Crown is just beautiful.

Oris is overrated and definitely overpriced. They sell $800 watches for $1800. Nope.

Longines finishing and quality is a step above Oris, and not a small step either.

Funny, my first watch was a Dolce Vita for my wedding earlier this year (the sector dial) followed by an all bronze Big Crown (green dial) a few months later. The Spirit is high on my list for an understated daily wearer. I went with the Oris as I found it to be more interesting with bronze and more unique with the pointer date. I can't speak to others' experience, but the patina on mine after two months is a beautiful rich brown/red (and 5 minutes in a bowl of vinegar would turn it back to its 'brand new' shiny rose gold). I'd like to also get the brown leather strap, but if I could only have one, I'd still go just go all in with the bronze bracelet. It's been a fun watch, and one that will give a lot of range to a slowly growing collection.
