The hands don't match the markers. What's going on?

@MWC2020 just released his latest video about the SRPK series of watches. As usual two thumbs up ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ for the review.

I was looking into getting one of these bad boys(girls?) for my significant other to have a matching pair. I know, kitsch right ๐Ÿคท?

Anyways that beside the point. MCW mentioned that the hands on the SRPKs don't match the hour markers. Actually, it's been bothering me too on my 5KX. The orange dial hides it pretty well. But once you start looking closer, it's really noticeable. They got it right on the black dials which made me wonder if it was a mistake. But now seeing it again on @MWC2020s review is telling me it was planned. Why ๐Ÿคฆ??? It's the one thing that stops me from saying my 5KX is the perfect watch. In every other aspect, it is perfect... For me. I'm never going to dive with it. I don't care about the screw down crown. I don't care about the see through caseback or how the movement looks. I take it for what it is. A go anywhere, do anything watch that has great features, wears nicely and looks damn good doing it.

Perfect is a subjective term. I think if you look hard enough you can find fault in even the most expensive watches. The only thing that matters is what is perfect for you. Everything else is noise.

Looks OK on the orange but....

But... Damn does it ever stand out on the teal dial. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

All the colors are a nod to the original colors released for the first SKX quartz divers 7548-700 that Seiko released in the early 80s. It is not a mistake, these all were original designs from their older model.

The bezels came in white and gold variants throughout the production period with references 700a and 700c.

I'm having a hard time seeing on your picture if the hour markers were the same color as the hands. But it looks like they were. I don't doubt that it's a nod to the originals and I'm not questioning that fact. Although, it would have been nice, in my humble opinion, to have matching bits.

If you see these new 38mm watches in person, the teal version is a complete mashup. The hour markers and seconds hand are gunmetal grey and the hands are gold. In some light, the gunmetal grey appears just appears black and the gold hands pop against the teal dial and it weirdly works.

If you like uniformity, then the black and white variants are the ones to go for imo. The white variant is the best out of the bunch, it has gunmetal accents and matched bezel insert which is very well done. The black is a standard affair, with silver accents on a black dial. The orange variant is basically a smaller SRPD59, like every SKX orange variant Seiko has made.

I certainly will look at those! The black is just a classic

The orange dial hides the mish mash really well.

I still love my little orange crush. Even with it's miss matched hands!

Seiko has historically kept the gold hands in the orange variant of the SKX designs, part off the unique identity.

When these models make it to other parts the world other than Europe, they will cost same as other Seiko 5 variants. I pre-ordered the teal variant for $230 after discount from my AD. The prices for these models in Europe is ridiculous.

I don't mind the gold hands. Sometimes, when the sun hits just right, I wish the hour markers had the gold rim too. Like the originals.

$230 is an amazing deal. In Canada, it looks like they will be priced around $425 (if memory serves?). I will wait untill there are discounts available. None of the watches I have were bought full price.

In my place the 38mm variants are priced at around $320. My Seiko AD gave me the standard 20% off the retail price they have for the Seiko 5 models plus there was a promotion going on for Ramadan so I got extra 5% discount so it turned out to be a good deal. Here the watches are only available from mid to late June.

Its better to go to the Seiko AD for the new smaller Seiko 5 variants then look for it online.

It was the first thing I saw and it would really bug me the hands don't match. Otherwise, I think it's a good looking watch

This is overpriced at ยฃ300, having seen the comparison of this to the SKX, it looks like Seiko cut corners on this one, sadly.
