Rolex Submariner vs. Explorer 2

If you had the choice between a sub and explorer 2, what would you buy? Why?

I did have the choice, and chose Rolex Explorer II (Polar version).

·

sub for sure - all that lovely black

·

Personally, I would go with the Explorer 2.  I don't like muggles, and if there's one watch in the world that a muggle will recognize, it's the Sub.  And then, the dirty, filthy, uncouth muggle might approach to ask, "Is that a Rolex?"

Uggghhh...  Just the thought of it...

The polar explorer II. I love the design and functionality.

·

16570 all day

·

Explorer 2; it has a GMT and is stealthy 🥷

·

Explorer…I  Sorry, it’s a grail for me.

·

Explorer. Especially an Explorer II with the GMT hand.

·

Sub out of the two. I actually don’t like the explorer 2 aesthetics.
I just picked up a BBPro today and that’s much better looking in my opinion.

·

Explorer II because It's a better and more beautiful watch.

Is that Settlers I see in the background?  gorgeous Polar, btw!

·

I own a modern sub and a 16570.  I'd like a modern EXP ll...but prefer the proportions and design of the sub a bit more at this point.  Maybe that would change after wearing an EXP ll for a bit?

I gave the 16570 to my wife.  I never quite bonded with it for some reason and it looks far better on her.

That's right! It used to be called Settlers of Catan or just Settlers.  By the time we got it, it was just being called Catan.  Whatever one wants to call it, it's fantastic!

At the time I took that pick, I was marveling at the coincidence that I was wearing my favorite watch in my collection while playing my favorite game of all time.

It's now my second favorite watch in my collection, but it held the title for close to a year.

·

If buying used id go with a 16570, if new, a no date.

·

If I had to? Well first thing I'd do is question how did I end with these two as my only choice when there are so many other watches that I would probably enjoy more.

Explorer II hands down - the #226570 white dial.

In my opinion it is the 'ultimate' watch.

·

submariner for me

·

I'd do a hulk  or kermit Subby if given that choice

·

Too many Subs out there.

For me I would say:

5 digit Explorer II > no date sub > bluesy > all other subs > 6 digit Explorer II

I have very strange tastes

That's not strange.  It's 16570 > everything else.

·

I've owned both and kept the Polar Explorer II

Coming from someone that has both, why would you pick the Sub?

Mainly personal preference. I prefer the black dial and ceramic bezel of the Sub.

·

I have both; if you are lucky enough to own both, then each has its own charm. The Sub needs no justification. The Explorer, though, is a perfect travel watch with the GMT function. With the larger dial, it is easier to read than the Sub. I have the polar

I can literally copy and paste your comment. I got my Pro on Thursday

Congratulations 👏

·

If straight choice between regular sub and Explorer II, I would take 5 digit Explorer II. However if can have Cermit or Kermit that’s my choice every time.

·

Explorer for me!  The Sub is a beautiful watch, but please don't hate me for saying this, it's a bit played out.  But obviously, you can't really go wrong with either and the right answer is "get both"  😀

I have both ,16570 and 16610 both from 2005 ,they both fit extremely well ,look amazing but the winner is the sub it's just iconic and my dream watch growing up

I'm guesing you're referring the sub-date, then it will be the Explorer2 for me!
