Hi, I’m Erik and I’m a watch nerd

Hello all. Have been a watch collector, modder, tinkerer and enthusiast for 10+ years. I’m a retired career firefighter/hazmat/emt/rescue diver and navy veteran. Spent 10 years in the submarine force as a nuke. Currently living near Pensacola Florida but a native of the northeast, so fugettabowdit.

Was on watchuseek forever, but got tired of the constant trolling, so giving this place a try. I’m mostly into dive watches but have become more open to pilot/field watches and sport/casual watches. Have modded a couple dozen watches, and am “semi-competent “ at movement servicing. Big fan of seiko, islander, citizen, helson, luminox, and other micro brands. Also a big fan of super compressor watches!

Latest snag is the Islander Northport with the blue to white dial currently in transit. Looking forward to checking out the conversations and seeing your watch pics.

Welcome, nice to have you on here. As someone who's also into dive watches it would be interesting to see what's in your collection as I bet you've been deeper than 99.99% of us. Come on on and enjoy yourself.

Welcome to WC man! And the one question I have: since you’re a firefighter, do you have a Sinn EZM 7? Please say yes!

Welcome to the Watch Fam! Thank you for your Navy and FD/EMT service!

Welcome & thank you for your service. My uncle was a firefighter and his son carried on in his father’s footsteps. I am new here myself and as forums go this is the best.

Welcome to WatchCrunch Erik!

Two questions:

Boomers or Fast Attack?

And what would you say is the most common watch worn in the Silent Service?

Fast attack, USS Albuquerque. In my day 83-93, G-Shock was king, especially the DW5600. A few of the officers had Rolex. I also got one of those citizen aqua land watches with the big pressure sensor on the side when I started diving.

Were you in the navy too? Thanks for the welcome!

Sorry I don’t. I’d love to own a Sinn though. Just a beautiful execution of design and engineering. Thank you for the welcome!

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome! Just been poking around a bit and enjoying the discussions/topics.

As requested, here are a few of my recent mods. First 2 are my skx to turtle mods. Did both the 007 and 009. Then a quickie orange explorer mod with some spare parts laying around. Going to upgrade it soon with a 4r movement. Then last is my turtle Batman with nh35, black Willard dial and dd sapphire.

Nah I’m retired AF. But have a lot of exposure to the Navy. Attended a Navy jungle survival school at Subic. Spent a lot of time in joint commands working with Sailors, had a few work for me, and worked for a few too! Was “haze gray and underway“ on the USS Blue Ridge a few weeks in the 90s for an exercise. Wife and daughter evaced the PI on the Abraham Lincoln after the volcano. And have a former son in law who builds Virginia-class boats at Huntington Ingalls. So I have a soft spot for squids!

Not surprised the GShock would be well represented in the submarine force. Hard to think of a better watch for that environment!

Welcome aboard!🤝 Loving the Seiko’s!
