Softwatch by Exaequo (What I bought was not what I got, the story of being to eager and enthusiastic with an online purchase)

I had been eyeing a Softwatch by Exaequo for quite a while, but the price had always been too high for me to justify the purchase of one, especially since in the past year the prices have gone up tremendously. Nevertheless, I didn’t stop looking for one and always came back to the weird and wonderful shape of it.

Let’s first do a little history before I continue this story. As you can probably tell, the Softwatch is inspired by The Persistence of Memory, a surrealistic painting created by Salvador Dalí in 1931. In 1989 the first version of the watch was presented at Basel world and got into production in 1991. There are a lot of versions and variations with all types of dial colours and case platings. If you want more info, IAmCasa has a great video on the subject that explains everything way better than I ever could.

Now back to the story. I looked at all kinds of listings and put in offers for the ones I liked. A few weeks ago, I was able to make a deal with someone for a price that I felt was very fair. Finally, I had bought the watch I couldn’t stop thinking about, a gold-plated monobloc second series Exaequo Softwatch with a perfect white dial. Everything looked great, it even came with an unworn original strap. After patiently waiting the watch finally arrived, but it was not what I had bought, not what was described in the listing, no it was in fact the smaller ladies model.

I contacted the seller because the listing clearly stated the dimensions and those dimensions did not match the watch that was delivered. As time went by, I grew more doubtful and suspicious, did some research on the seller. Low and behold, he had scammed before and has now deleted his account, leaving me with no way of contacting him.

I am now left with a beautiful watch, one that I always wanted, but a strap that barely goes around my wrist and a sour taste in my mouth. I guess I learned my lesson, never be too eager and enthusiastic and always, always buy the seller, not the watch.

I'm sorry to hear that things didn't go well.

For what it's worth I think the size still works well on your wrist. Is there any option to change the strap?

·

Feel for you.  I think these parasites feed on your eagerness to own certain watches and take full advantage of this, or at least that's what I would do if I had no moral fibre or self respect.

Oh man, I am so sorry! The joy of buying and  selling on the forums is partially to connect with others Watch nerds. It’s a shame that there are people who take advantage of our passion for watches! 🤬🤬

for what it’s worth, I agree with the others that the size looks really good  on you - hopefully you can replace the strap and keep on enjoying it!

As others have mentioned, I also think it looks great on you. I wouldn't have guessed this was the smaller size if you did not mention it.

Shame on the scammer. 🤬

People are the worst

Sorry man. People suck

Thank you guys for the replies, I'll buy a longer strap and see if I like it. I'm unsure if I'm going to keep it but I still think it's an awesome watch.

Sorry to hear about this experience! I agree that the watch itself looks great on your wrist. Did you keep it? Not sure of your price range, but there are currently a few on Chrono24 now. Here's an example.

Unfortunately it didn't sit comfortably on my wrist so I ended up selling it locally, he had a smaller wrist and it worked perfectly on him.

I bought it for €850 and sold it for exactly the same.

If I find one I like however, I'll probably end up buying it again. Because as you know it's an amazingly fun watch. 😉
