Just an idea I had for a watch box

During my time here in this little corner of the internet, I've seen a few people who don't like watch boxes. Seeing the empty spots in your box can create a pressure to fill it and make you buy a watch just so there wouldn't be an empty hole staring back at you.

So that had me thinking, why not make a watch box with different cover plates, always giving you the satisfaction of a full watch box, whether you only have one or 5 watches. When your collection expands, you can just put in a different cover plate and have a free spot for your new watch without having to buy a bigger watch box.

To visualize it, I quickly made a model of it, so you can enjoy my overthinking of this non-existent problem in full 3D.

That's genius!

·

clever!

·

Excellent idea and rendering.

As a bonus, the cover plate could cover watches that one wants covered for whatever reason.

Presumably the extra plates would be stored underneath or something?

·

Awesome!

·

If it works for some, great.

It would not work for me.

Oh yeah it would be great as a little secret storage pocket as well. Covering a watch or some tools you don't always use, lots of possibilities.

Either underneath or in the lid would be great I think, somewhere where you can't lose them.

The length of time a person owns a somewhat empty 5 bay watch box with alternating cover plates is directly inverse to the length of time it would take to fill said box and need another box. Save the materials for the next box! Ha!

Just kidding, it is a nifty idea and I like it! Carry on.

·

okay, now this is just cool - well done, OP

·

I don't like boxes just because I prefer a carry case.

But yes good idea.

·

I don't suffer from the 'empty space anxiety', but think it's a great idea for those that do.

Currently filling an eighteen aperture box and have reached twelve. 😃

·

Customizable cover plates so that you can tailor them to your collection. It would open up a world of possibilities.

·

That really cool if they make it I wonder what they would do about colors

·

actually awesome

·

Go to sharktank!😉

Would buy!🥂

·

Hmmmm the empty spot means you need to buy another watch, this tops ‘space anxiety‘ your wife didn’t come up with this idea did she?? 😂😂

·

Brilliant idea.

·

Very smart! If there was a clever way to store the plates (perhaps in the box lid somewhere) would be dope. I can see how the cover plates could be something that was further personalized too. Really think you got something there 👍

The lid could definitely accommodate the spare plates I think. After seeing the comments I might flesh it out a bit more and incorporate those little things in the design

·

Its a really cool idea, except my brain will still know there are empty slots under there.

·

Don’t put the extra plates in the lid, it should be transparent. There could be a slot in the back or a compartment underneath. Cool idea.

I might be in the minority but I actually don't like transparant lids 😅 but I'll make a version with it

·

Well, since the whole idea is based on visuals, a transparent lid seems appropriate.

·

I have a box for practicality sake but I hate the format and those stupid little pillows.

To your point, I like your idea!

But I would much rather have a true grab and go solution, where the pieces would be laid instead of wrapped on those faux pillow s#!ty things.

I’m seriously considering the only solution I have seen that it’s close enough to it, an EDC knife storage case

What do you reckon?

·

Great Idea!

·

My open slots aren't open long enough to warrant such a clever idea. 😉

·

Congrats on the design, simple and cheap to make

My thought also.

Any self respecting WIS would know full well that 5 slots lurked at the bottom of the various "cover plates".

We would not be fooled by such a ruse.
