An amazing gift from my parents

One of the first watches I loved when I first got interested in all this was the Longines Flagship Heritage. A few days ago my parents surprised me with the watch, a gift as a late 21st birthday present and for recently doing well at university after a bit of a rough patch. Having it on the wrist I like it even more, the finishing is great and I think the proportions are just right.

I’m so grateful to have such supportive parents and this will certainly be a watch that stays with me.

That is great! Excellent choice too.  Love the Flagship right along with the Silver Arrow.  Can't go wrong with either of those!

Beautiful watch dude! Good to have parents that are supportive...also great that you got through that rough patch. College can be tough at first.

Great all-around watch to get! This can last you a long. Any thoughts about changing straps?

Thank you! And yeah I think the standard strap pairs well with the watch but I'm always up for mixing it up with a new strap. Do you have any suggestions? For colour or material?

Now, if this doesn't motivate you to pull through uni stronger than ever, I don't know what could. Great watch and - may I compliment your parents on their good taste? 👍

Beautiful watch, and kudos to your parents to pick a Longines where L did get the date window right, one of my pet peeves with the brand.

Thank you very much! I think Longines has done a lot better when it comes to their date windows in recent years, but even on this model it's a little divisive. Personally, I think the date window here keeps the symmetry and is framed nicely, though it could have been colour matched a little better.

You mean, because the date wheel is white and the dial has this ever so slight coffee-tint? Obviously, that is better for you to judge as you have the thing in the metal, and I just have a photo to judge this by. I am not even sure I would prefer a date wheel with a matching background colour, the white gives it a tad of extra emphasis that feels right. I have seen L use a black wheel on a dark blue dial, and that does hurt my eyes. Of course, the white wheel is the cheapest, so L cannot expect any accolades for the colour choice.

IMHO, a slight imperfection in the dial design is the position of the date window. Either, there should be no index (as here) and the window lines up with the other indices (it does not), or: the window is moved a little inwards (as here) and is accompanied by a shortened index. As is, it looks a little as if that shortened index was once there but fell off, leaving a mark on the dial. But that is an impression I get after having seen many similar designs with these shortened markers.
