Delusions of Grandeur

Maybe not the real deal but, still looks stunning IMO. As the birch is my all time grail if money was no option! This is my build on a budget . Maybe one day I may be able to afford the real thing but till then, I'm happy with this .

Looks fantastic well done. I’m a little jealous of you watch makers and modders I don’t have the patience, talent or imagination to do anything like this. 👏👏

·

If it wasn't for countless hours spent on youtube watching other modders , I don't think I would ever have got into building/modding.

·

That is a fantastic build!  Is that lume in the hour indices???  If so, that's absolutely outstanding!

OP, I will offer up the same commentary and the same offer as I made yesterday, to another WC community member, with regard to the SLGH005:

Good sir, I am the proud owner of a White Birch and love it!

However, I am thinking about parting with my SLGH005.  Why?  For very idiosyncratic reasons:

  • I've come to decide that I don't care about movements inside of watches, other than if it's Spring Drive
  • So, while it's amazing that you get 80 hours of power reserve from a hi-beat movement at 36,000 vph, and everyone raves about this being the second new escapement architecture in 250 years...  none of that matters all that much to me
  • And, as such, I'm consolidating my GS collection to only Spring Drive and 9F Quartz watches

(Look, I know how utterly ridiculous that is.  I mean, it's like saying, "I only collect rookie year baseball cards of left-handed pitchers born west of the Mississippi."  But, you know, we gotta come up with some sh*t to make the hobby fun for ourselves, right?)

The one thing holding me back from letting it go at the moment is the dial.  It's out of this world.

Anyway, I've already talked to my dealer, and he's made me an offer.  I'd be happy to extend the same price to you - it's a wash for me, but it'd save you a good deal of cash off MSRP and avoid sales tax, etc.

Otherwise...  if now's not the time, I would say, nothing's out of reach.  I mean, there are always ways to make more money, right?  If you really want something badly enough, you can always find ways to make it happen.

Which reminds me of a joke that rational actor / revealed choice economists love:

  • Two economists are walking along the street, and look up to see that they're just outside of a Ferrari dealership, and there's a 812GTS on the showroom floor
  • The first economist says, "Man, that is a beautiful car.  I want that car more than anything in the world."
  • The second economist says, "No.  You don't."

Get it?  Revealed choice...  versus stated preference?

Guess you had to be there...

Yes, hour markers are inlayed with BGW9. This was a total surprise and added bonus as thought they were just polished . Took me a while to find the hands to match .not normally a fan of BGW9 it really pops here .I'd love to have the kind of budget to buy the real thing though but, this build turned out better than I expected. Only thing messing with my OCD is the contrasting chapter ring . I've got polished blue and polished silver on order from Namokies just to compare so, may end up losing the white one all together depending on how the blue or silver ones finish it off.

I feel the sane way about GS , for me it's all about the spring drive as that what makes them special. I love my snowflake and have been very tempted by the sports quartz models , but focusing on Tudor atm

Wow! I'll leave it at that.

No, no, no...  white chapter ring like 80x better, my friend!  The blue chapter ring takes away from the dial of the watch.  I think, given how subtle the dial is, you want all the focus to be on the dial.

Cool build haha. May I ask what rubber strap you got on it?
