A homemade watch is my favorite gift to give. Recently I had the pleasure of seeing these two on the wrists of family at a party.
The watch on the left uses an NH36 movement, and the one on the right is powered by a Miyota 8215. Every build I do with an NH movement is a blast. The dial feet are easy to align and feel secure, and second hand installation is painless. However… every project with a Miyota movement makes me question my competence. The dial feet screws never seem to hold the dial tight enough to the movement, and applying the second hand requires a ridiculous number of attempts.
My question to other modders, do you have a preferred movement to work with? If so, why? If anyone has experience with a Selitta movement I would love to hear how it compares.

Ive done all my builds on NH movements, mostly since the parts seem to be the most readily available. And no matter how many builds I do, I still struggle with hands! (whether it be the watch's hands, or my own)

That pretty much sums it up! Sometimess I fantasize about simple two handed builds so I don’t have to sweat the second hand, but I haven’t found a dial/hand set combo that looks complete with only two.
At least there is the satisfying feeling when all hands are on and spinning without interference.
I never experimented with other movements, just Seiko NHxx or 6Rxx, 4Rxx etc.
Here's a tip I filmed for fitting the seconds hand (which was the one that always frustrated me the most) https://youtu.be/kammiYRYdB0
All mine are nh builds but I have a donor watch with a sw200 that I'll be building out at some point.

Great video! I did my first couple without Rodico… I’ll never go back to that.

Looking forward to future updates on that build!
