Breitling Aerospace Evo Night Mission Review

Why I bought this watch: I’m autistic and for me, the world is chaos. Having an accurate watch is important as it means there is one small part of my life that is stable and reliable. I’ve already got a Grand Seiko SBGN003 with their phenomenal 9F quartz movement and decided to get a Breitling with their SuperQuartz movement. Both are travel watches too, which is really cool.
What I think of the:

Dial: Easy to read with great lume. The cardinal numbers are on the large side but that’s not a big deal.

Case: The DLC coated titanium case is fantastic. Its lightness, slim width and turned-down lugs means it wears smaller than its 43mm diameter would suggest.

The raised tabs on the bezel at 12, 15, 30 and 45 took a bit of getting used to but I adapted quickly. The great lume is included in the pip at 12 on the bezel. Honestly, it glows like a torch.

Movement: The movement is as accurate as advertised. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a Grand Seiko 9F movement but it doesn't need to have them.

Functions: It’s amazing that Breitling figured out a way to manage all the functions with a single crown. You make changes between functions or adjust the watch based on whether the crown is in or out and whether you make a slow or quick turn of the crown. The tech geek in me loves that.

The only thing I don’t like is that learning the difference between a slow twist and a quick twist can be a little fiddly. The backlight is operated by making a slow turn of the crown while the watch is in timekeeping mode but a mistake with how quickly you turn the crown can change the watch setting instead of turning on the light. Setting the countdown timer is also a bit twitchy but I rarely use that function.

One unexpected thing I like is the minute repeater. It comes in handy when I check the time in the middle of the night. The light from using my phone to check the time can wake me up more but the minute repeater doesn’t. It’s so nice to think ‘oh, it’s 1:07 I’ve got hours to sleep.’

Backlight: The backlight is faint but that’s actually a cool thing. It’s designed so that the backlight doesn’t affect your night vision. That means taking the garbage out on a dark night can become a covert mission behind enemy lines! Unleash your inner Bond!

Strap: The strap is surprisingly comfortable. It’s polyamide fabric lined with leather, which I thought would be hot and sticky. It’s not, which is unexpected. I love the DLC coated titanium clasp. It’s easy to make small adjustments to the strap too. This watch is most likely a strap monster. Remember fellas, black goes with everything.

What I think a week after getting the watch: So far this watch has barely been off my wrist with my Tudor Black Bay ‘58 getting some wrist time for part of one day. I don’t think this is the usual ‘in love’ period with a new watch. This watch ticks so many boxes that it has a permanent place in my collection.

  • Very light and sits on the wrist well
  • Dial has great lume and is easy to read
  • DLC means I don't have to baby the watch
  • Strap is easy to adjust and has a good titanium clasp
  • The backlight is turned on by a slow twist of the crown, which can be hard to master

Absolutely one of the coolest "modern" Breitlings 👌 And quartz is cool 😎 Glad you like it!! Good review.

Some of my favorite people are on the Spectrum. I just finished movie night with a very dear friend which is an Aspie. Make me wonder if I'm not a Neutotyoical myself, since so many of the people I like the most isn't 🤔

Thank you for the review. Very informative. I didn’t know there is a minute repeater function in it! Amazing watch! 🍻

If nothing else we can make you an honourary Aspie. 😀

Not at all my style, but I always enjoy hearing what others love about their watches. It’s interesting to see a watch from somebody else’s perspective, especially if it’s one you don’t like. Cheers.

It's blowing my mind that it's all controlled by the crown.

I know, right? You should check one out in the metal.

Great review and great watch. Glad I’m not the only one who randomly wakes up, checks the watch, and then tries to fall back asleep bc it’s only 2am.

I've owned the non-DLC black dial for a few years now and it's an amazing piece of kit. Highly underrated and it flies below the radar. My most complimented watch by strangers, even more so than my Explorer 1.

Nice review. Thanks for the insight.

Love it. I've just got one that isn't coated. Will post something soon on it. The Aerospace is a classic. Has gone through some changes over the years but still has remained a favorite among pilots. Production appears to have stopped on the Evo in 2022 (some special issues being an exception) and word is there is a new model on the way. I was at a ton of ADs and two boutiques. None available, even for order. Regarding the new one... Very tight-lipped Breitling reps (got to meet one from Switzerland).
